Investigation of Adsorption on Mixed Adsorbents
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Safe Kordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Adsorption of acetone vapors on mixture of silica gel and activated carbon was studied. Adsorption is defined as the attraction adsorbate (liquid or gas) particles onto the surface of a solid (porous solid). Most of the experimental works are adsorption of a one or more component on an adsorbent. Presence of two or more adsorbents together may effect on adsorption rate, uptake and thermodynamic conditions. When we have limitation in using a kind of adsorbent, these results can be helpful. There are several motivating reasons for the study of adsorption on adsorbent mixtures. During the adsorbent manufacturing process, multiple batches may differ slightly from each other(and from the customer...

Abstract
In the econometrics of disequilibrium it is argued that current market prices cannot change instantly to clear the markets in each period of time, so markets cannot constantly be in equilibrium condition. This point is main concern of this research. In present study, test statistics for the equilibrium hypothesis against market disequilibrium are provided and their statistical properties (size discrepancy and power) are studied by random simulations and bootstrapping. The proposed tests are based on idea of H.S.Hweang (1980), where equilibrium hypothesis (stability of coefficient) is nested in the disequilibrium null hypothesis of instability in the coefficient of reduced regression. Dynamical Behavior in Statistical Mechanics of Open Quantum Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rezakhani, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
A fundamental question in investigating decoherence and equilibrium of a system in contact with a bath is how its entropy changes in time. Normally, von Neumann’s entropy is used in such studies to quantize degree of decoherence. Recently, certain researches have been conducted addressing entropy rate and various bounds have been achieved for this quantity, utilizing which one can discuss decoherence rate and equilibrium state of open systems. In this thesis, we introduce these bounds and try to improve them. Using improved bound we will show that for almost all conceivable initial states of the system and the bath, average of entropy rate will be negligible. This result is obtained under...
Analysis of the Evolution of the Strategies in a Two-Tier Supply Chain Using Evolutionary Game Theory
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kianfar, Farhad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis a two-tier supply chain containing an upstream supplier and a downstream producer have been modeled. This model presents a replicator interaction in supply chain. In this model supplier has to choose between two different production strategies which provide two types of output-quality. It is obvious the method with better output-quality has more production cost and the one with lower output-quality has lower production cost. The strategy of producer is to choose whether test the production before process it in production line or not. By the tool of evolutionary game theory trends of changing in players' strategies have been modeled and Nash equilibrium points and the types of...
Design and Fabrication of a Balance Training Apparatus
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzadipour, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Farahmand, Farzam (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
One of the main reasons of being unable in doing routine jobs is the disability to attain and keep balance. This ability can be restored using rehabilitation techniques. A physiotherapist can be very helpful. This approach, however, apart from being very time consuming and expensive, needs quite a few physiotherapists. The physiotherapist will be prone to physical damages as well. This leads to improving therapy methods which do not require a physiotherapist. Using the rehabilitation balance devices can help solve the problem to some extents. If good device with reliable value system be developed, this device can be used without physiotherapist.

A Hyrid EMG-optimization Based Model of the Lumbar Spine to Estimate Muscle Forces in Different Tasks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Arjmand, Navid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Low back pains (LBP) are prevalent and costly. One of the important factors causing LBP is excessive axial compression and shear forces that are applied on the intervertebral discs during different activities. Due to lack of direct in vivo measurement methods for estimating these loads, musculoskeletal biomechanical models have been emerged as indispensable tools under various activities. Different biomechanical models have been suggested to estimate muscle forces and spinal loads base on optimization, EMG and hybrid (EMG assisted optimization, EMGAO) methods. Although there have been a number of studies on the differences between various optimization and EMG-based methods, there has been no...
Characterization of Sulfur Protective Catalyst and Simulation of the Process of Removing Sulfur from Naphtha Product
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Baghalha, Morteza (Supervisor) ; Kazemini, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Because of the importance of purification units at the refineries, in this research the process of sulfur removing compounds from light naphtha product with 1 ppm concentration by adsorption method in a fixed bed tower was simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics software. In this work, simulation was done using two macro and micro perspectives. In the Macro-scale mass transfer takes place between the spherical particles of catalyst and in the micro-scale mass transfer takes place within the spherical particles and these two scales were coupled together by reaction rate variable. In Macro-scale one-dimensional and two-dimensional geometry were considered for model. Naturally, the result of the...
