Optimization of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction of Medicinal Plants Essence by using Taguchi Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this project after literature survey, an endemic Iranian plant called Dracocephalum kotschyi Boiss. that have various medicinal properties has been selected. The essential oil of this plant has not extracted by supercritical fluid technology up to now and this is first work. In order to achieve the maximum yield and optimization of process five parameter in four level has been selected including: Pressure, Temperature, Carbon dioxide flow rate, particle size and dynamic time. For reduction of the number of experiment, Taguchi design of experiment (DOE) and its L16 orthogonal array has been used. Total yield of extraction in each experiment calculated by dividing the mass of produced...
Preparation of Polyethersulfone Membrane for Separation of Aroma Compounds in Grape Juice
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Roostaazad, Reza (Supervisor) ; Mousavi, Abbas (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Many aroma compounds of fruit juice recovered by thermal processes like evaporation and distillation can lead to undesirable chemical changes and even their loss. Pervaporation is a promising process for the recovery of volatile organic compounds from their aqueous solutions. In the present work, pervaporation recovery of Butyl acetate as a model solution ofgrape juice aroma compoundwas evaluated with polyethersulfone (PES) and ethylvinylacetate (EVA) membranes. PES membrane generally showed better selectivity so that the separation factor at the concentration of 500 ppmand the temperature of 30°C for PES and EVA membranes, respectively, was 230.78 and 156.9. The effect of two operating...
Design of Damask Rose Harvesting Machine and Testing a Flower Picker
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Zohoor, Hassan (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
From the past, the damask rose has an important place in various pharmaceutical, food, health and cosmetic industries. This product has the largest cultivated area in Iran, which is about 24,000 hectares, equal to 60% of its total cultivation in the world. Considering the conditions required for the cultivation of this plant, including the low water requirement, the expansion of its cultivation has been considered. One of the important obstacles to not expanding cultivation is manual harvesting, which strongly affects the quality and mass of essential oil and rose water. The efforts that have been made so far in the field of designing and producing the rose harvesting machine have not had...
