Gold Nanowaste Reduction and Recycling Using Chemical Methods
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hormozi-Nezhad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Alamolhoda, Ali Asghar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The growing use of nanomaterials leads to causing harm to the aquatic environment resulting in a demand for effective methods to remove these nanomaterials from aquatic environment. On the other hand, the high cost of raw materials used for the production of noble metal nanomaterial limits their use or requires the development of recycling and recovery methods. In this study, we found that citrate capped gold nanoparticles (cit-AuNPs) could be removed effectively from waste water using aluminum chloride (AlCl3) coagulant. The effect of pH, of coagulant concentration, and alkalinity on the performance of this coagulant was investigated. It has...
(Feasibility Study as Obtimazation of Physical-Chemical Processes for Hydrocarbon Removal for Gas Industry Waste Water (an Ethylene Glycol Case Study
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Borghei, Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this project, the feasibility of hydrocarbon waste water treatment with low concentration by physical- chemical treatment methods will be discussed. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the feasibility of reusing the water outlet of the oil and gas refineries, in the region of ASALUYEH where there is an urgent need for water. By using activated carbon and wooden absorbent (absorption method) efficiency of this method was determined. Both coagulation and flocculation methods were investigated. To design and optimize various operating conditions on the adsorption process the RSM method was used. Temperature, residence time, feed concentration, amount of adsorbent, and adsorbent ...
Synthesis and Characterization of High Molecular Weight Polyacrylamide and Cationic Polyacrylamide
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Frounchi, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Dadbin, Susan (Supervisor)
Abstract
In many industrial processes there is an urgent need for flocculation of suspensions that can’t flocculate easily through the time so flocculants are wildly used in these industries. Polymeric flocculants because of less needed dose are economically used. Polymeric flocculants divided to three categories: nonionic, anionic and cationic those are almost from polyacrylamide group. Studying mechanisms of flocculation, one of the main factors that enhance flocculation is molecular weight of polymer. Hence one of the goals of this work is to improve molecular weights of synthesized polymers as much as possible that is followed by viscometery, NMR, DSC and FTIR studies and ended with jar test....
Treatment of Greywater Using Chemical Processes and UF Membrane Filtration
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Borghei, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Greywater accounts for about 70% of household consumption and can be returned to the consumption cycle if a sustainable system is built in residential areas and the treated water can be used for irrigation, flash tank filling, and even aquifer fillings. The purpose of this study was to establish a sustainable method in small treatment plants that could sufficiently recover the water used in households. In this study, chemical ways of wastewater treatment, as well as membrane filtrations, were investigated to reduce greywater pollution. The results show that the coagulants alone can remove 80% of COD. Membranes can also reduce COD by up to 83%. In addition, the best removal efficiency using...
