Investigation of Fatigue Crack Growth in a Landing Gear Support Fitting
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Adib Nazari, Saeid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis failure analysis of a critical part in a landing gear of a commercial aircraft was conducted.Fatigue phenomenon was determined as the reason for the failure and fracture of the mentionedcomponent. Fractography investigation of the fracture surface and charasteristicswas conducted.Scanning Electron Microscope was utilized for the study of the fracture surface. In the fracture surface, fatigue striations were observed. An experimental model of the crack growth is presented by using the fracture surface characteristics. By counting the fatigue striations and measuring their distance betwwn them on the fracture surface, the rate of the crack growth and crack growth life were...
Friction-Stir Processed Al-Al3Ti-MgO Hybrid Nanocomposites
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kokabi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, investigation of mechanical properties of micro- and nano-structure materials, and peculiarly nanocomposites have been attracted a wide variety of researches. In this regard, friction-stir-processed (FSPed) metal matrix nanocomposites have been considered an important case with appropriate mechanical properties especially for fabrication of ultra-fine grained Al alloys and Al-matrix nanocomposites. In this research, Al matrix hybrid nanocomposites were fabricated via multi passes-friction stir processing (FSP) of Al-Mg alloy (AA5052) with different amounts (~2 and 3 vol%) of pre-placed TiO2 (30 nm) particles nanoparticles. It was revealed that employing of cumulative FSP up...
Investigation on Effects of Cold Roll Prior to Intercritical Annealing on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ferrite - Martensite Dual Phase Steel
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ekrami, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study investigates effect of cold roll prior to inter-critical annealing on microstructure and mechanical properties of ferrite-martensite dual phase steel. Samples were heated to 850oC for 1h followed by oil quench, then the steel sheet were cold rolled by 0%,10%,15% and 20% reduction in thickness, Then an inter-critical annealing(750oC,120min) was performed to generate a ferrite-martensite microstructure. Microstructural study showed that increase in applied Cold roll, leading to increase volume fraction of martensite and decrease in ferrite grain size. Mechanical properties of dual phase steel were tested by Tensile test, impact test and micro-hardness Test. Results shows that...
Investigation of Creep Properties of Transient Liquid Phase Bonding of FSX-414 Co-based Superalloy
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ekrami, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The repair and production of Ni-based and Co-based superalloy parts have high importance in Oil and Gas, and Aerospace industries. Due to this issue, Transient Liquid Phase bonding is one of the most reliable welding methods for repair parts and fabricating new parts. In the present study, creep properties of similar transient liquid phase bonding of FSX-414 Co-based superalloy has been investigated and compared with creep properties of the un-bonded base metal. Firstly, the optimum condition of the bonding process was resulted from microstructural observations from different bonding conditions. Then, cylindrical samples for the aim of creep test specimens were fabricated in two different...
