Preparation of Nanobiocomposites Based on Halloysite Nanotubes-Zein and Evaluation of their Performance for Thin Film Microextraction
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this work, a biocompatible sorbent based on halloysite nanotubes-zein bionanocomposite for direct-immersion thin film microextraction (DI-TFME) is introduced. Zein as a biodegradable, low cost and accessible polymer was used to prepare a flexible thin film with the possession of different interactions and good adsorption capacity. To improve the mechanical and chemical resistance of the film, halloysite nanotubes were combined with zein to prepare the thin film sorbent. The film was used for TFME of 16 pesticides from different chemical classes, including organochlorines and organophosphates followed by gas chromatography with electron capture detector (GC-ECD). To achieve the maximum...
Fabrication and Characterization of Polyethylene/Thermoplastic Starch Nanocomposite Films Containing Ethylene Adsorbent Nanostructures for Atmosphere-Controlled Packaging
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Pircheraghi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, a polyethylene / thermoplastic film containing ethylene adsorbent nanostructure was fabricated to package agricultural products and increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. The thermoplastic starch containing 60 wt% starch and 40 wt% plasticizers with weight ratios of 5: 1, 4: 1, and 3: 1 sorbitol to glycerol was added to the polyethylene film to determine the composition of the final film. The film was prepared by a combination of low-density polyethylene with 10wt % linear low-density polyethylene, 30 wt% thermoplastic starch (4: 1 sorbitol to glycerol ratio), and 3wt% PE-g-MA as compatibilizer. Then, halloysite nanotubes were added to the film as ethylene...
Kinetics and Mechanism Study of Chemical Pollutant Adsorption Using Organic Ligands Modified Nano-adsorbents
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golami, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Among various methods for purifying water from dyes, adsorption takes advantage of simplicity, high efficiency, no secondary-pollution, and inexpensiveness. In this project Halloysite nanoparticles were applied to prepare a series of modified polyAcrylamide- quince seed gum hydrogels (QS/PAAm/Haln). The obtained hydrogels demonstrated improved efficiency as adsorbent in removing methylene blue (MB) from aqueous media. The structure of the prepared hydrogel nanocomposites were identified by X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Kinetics, thermodynamic,...
Fabrication of Magnetic Halloysite-Supported Catalyst for Reduction of Organic Dyes in Water
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemeini, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Sadjadi, Samaheh (Supervisor)
Abstract
A new magnetic catalytic nanocomposite of Hal-MT-Cys-Ag/MNCD was fabricated and utilized for catalyzing reductive de-colorization of methyl orange and rhodamin B in aqueous media at room temperature. To prepare this material, Cl-functionalized halloysite nanoclay was successively reacted with melamine and 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine to furnish multi-nitrogen containing ligand on halloysite surface. Then, magnetic carbon dots were crafted through a facile method and decorated with Ag nanoparticles and cysteine to furnish Cys-Ag/MNCD species. The final nanocomposite was obtained via incorporation of this latter species onto functionalized halloysite. This was characterized through the XRD,...
Synthesis of Heteropolyacid Catalysts Stabilized on Clay for Conversion of Carbohyderates into 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemeini, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Sadjadi, Samaheh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Three Keggin-type heteropolyacids were impregnated upon halloysite to produce heterogeneous acidic catalysts for synthesizing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF). Comparing the effectiveness of variously prepared catalysts in producing 5-HMF from fructose revealed the important role of halloysite in the final catalyst's acidic properties and performance in the reaction of halloysite-supported silicotungstic acid. Adjusting the reaction parameters for obtaining optimal results for the catalyst of choice was conducted via Response Surface Methodology and it was found that use of catalyst with 11 wt.% active ingredient at 125 °C in DMSO solvent yielded the target compound with 99.5% after 43 min....
