A Fast and Seamless Handover Mechanism for IEEE 802.16e Broadband Wireless Access Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Broadband wireless access networks, such as the IEEE 802.16e standard for wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs), aim to provide high bandwidth, low-cost, scalable solutions that extend multimedia services from backbone networks to mobile users. Handover is one of the most critical components in mobility management and its related latency plays an operative role in performance of mobile WiMAX environment. By cooperation of MAC and IP Layers, the overall handover latency in IEEE 802.16e networks would be reduced. In this thesis, we propose a fast and seamless handover scheme in mobile WiMAX networks that uses the cross-layering design model to create a new interface between layers and...
Load Balancing with Handover in Mobile WiMAX Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Beigy, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Mobile Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (Mobile WiMAX) is a wireless access technology based on IEEE 802.16e. Mobile WiMAX supports mobility and a wide range of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for several applications. This wireless technology introduces handover mechanisms to avoid disruption of services running on Mobile Stations (MS) through moving. In this thesis, we have focused on balancing the load of the system, using handover mechanisms suggested by mobile WiMAX. The proposed algorithm, WQLB, concentrates on controlling the system load and keeping it in a balanced state by using a handover process. Also, the algorithm is designed to utilize resources...
Analysis & Improvement of Handover Process in Wireless Heterogeneous Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wireless technology is growing rapidly. We have seen the evolution of these networks from first to fourth generation. Along with this growth, number of users needing wireless data services supporting real-time multimedia applications with high quality of service is growing annually. The challenge is to have the best connection anytime anywhere. Radio access technologies (RATs) consist of different types. Each RAT has its own technological characteristics. Operators constantly are seeking to increase their subscribers by providing high quality services so they can earn more profit. On the other hand users try to have a better experience from provided data services according to their...
