An Efficient GPS-based System for Reliable Infraction Detection in Highways
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research we explain a new method for detection of infraction behavior of drivers in highways. There are different approaches to find and register such abnormal and illegal behaviors, such as a camera-based monitoring system and Radar-based infraction detectors. But none of them can recognize and register the weave through traffic or spiral motions of vehicles, because the radar-based systems do not have adequate latitudinal–resolution while their longitudinal-accuracy is moderate. Moreover, the locations of radars are fixed and, the drivers adapt the velocity of their vehicles based on the position of the known radars. Consequently, these systems are inherently not suitable for our...
Travel Mode Choice with High Occupancy Toll Lane
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Samimi, Jalal (Supervisor)
Abstract
With the growth of the urban population and the increase in private car ownership, negative implications of transportation, such as traffic congestion and environmental pollution has increased. A good solution to this problem is development of traffic infrastructures. However, it is not sufficient by itself and better management strategies for solving these problems are needed. One of the related approaches, is high occupancy toll lane. The main purpose of this study is modeling user’s mode choice behavior in the presence of high occupancy toll lane and pricing some highway lanes in Tehran. Another important purpose of this study is to find affective factors that have an influence on users...
Optimal Rate Estimation of Congestion Toll for Iran's Highways by Value Pricing Model
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
The goal of this research is to obtain optimal toll for saveh-salafchegan, Tehran-pardis and Ghazvin-karaj highways. To obtain optimal toll, Small and Yan value pricing model was extended and then parametrs of the model was estimated by using daily data of Maintenance and road transport Organization, then value of time parameter was structurally estimated and optimall toll was numerically obtained for the highways. Finally sensitivity analysis was performed for all parameters. Results show that optimall toll for saveh-salafchegan highway is unique and respectively, are in interval τ≤0.03 and τ≤3.72 . Magnitude of value of time of road users and difference between value of time of users...
Assessing and Comparing Risk indices in BOT and DBB Delivery Methods in Freeway and Highway Construction Projects
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The present survey study aims at investigating and comparing risk indices in highway and freeway projects implemented through Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Design-Bid-Build (DBB) delivery methods. In this regard, two distinct questionnaires were developed (one for BOT and one for DBB delivery method) and interviews were conducted, too. The questionnaires were, then, sent to the target population, i.e. all the experts and agents involved in highway and freeway construction projects implemented through either BOT or DBB method. The collected data were then submitted to Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 22.00, to be analyzed. The results showed that risks had generally...
