Systematic Planned (Preventive) Maintenance in Hospitals And Medical Centers of Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faghihi, Farshid (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on the latest statistical figures, more than 50 billion Rials worth of medical equipment exists in Iran’s medical centers. In spite of this, Breakdown maintenance is used in all hospitals, which means that the equipment is utilized as long as it is not out of order and only in such a situation, i.e. a breakdown, the necessary repair operation is conducted on the equipment. In fact, no maintenance is carried out to prevent a breakdown, while the “prevention from breakdown” concept has long been introduced in the majority of industries in many countries including Iran and its positive impacts are undisputable. This thesis aims at proposing a solution for the implementation of a “planned...

Conceptual Design of a Hospital Information System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamshidipour, Iman (Author) ; Ghasemi Tari, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The concept of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) has been the center of attraction for manufacturing firms. So many of these firms have dedicated their efforts in implementing this concept. The high competition among these firms leads to use ERP very seriously. Implementation of ERP concepts has major efforts of daily activities of these firms and it can be stated that : "Without use of the ERP concepts manufacturing firms cannot survive" Hospital activities are not very different from manufacturing activities in nature. Despite of this similarity, very limited efforts have been dedicated to implement ERP concepts in the hospital. The goal of this thesis is to design a conceptual model for...

Building Information Modelling in Facility Management of Public Buildings : a Case Study of Public Hospital

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyrfar, Abolfazl (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Purpose: The government owns a majority of healthcare infrastructures in Iran. Annual budget assigned to the hospitals and other parts of the healthcare system constitutes a significant portion of the country’s total budget. Despite the huge money spent, and regardless of recent improvements made to the healthcare system, still Iranian’s satisfaction level from public hospitals is low. However, improving complex and congested facility and utility systems of hospital buildings, supporting various delicate hospital services, can play an important role in both reducing hospital costs and enhancing quality level of services provided. Methodology: So far, use of various advantages building...

A Framework to Assess Effect of Interdependent Infrastructures' Disruption on Operation of Hospital during Natural Disasters

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farahmand, Hamed (Author) ; Haj Kazem Kashani, Hamed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In earthquake-prone communities, the post-earthquake functionality of hospitals is crucial. Hospitals can dramatically reduce earthquake casualties if they can remain functional and retain service continuity. A variety of earthquake-induced problems such as damage to hospital components, unavailability of medical staff, disruption in medicine supply, and failure of supporting infrastructure systems can negatively affect the functionality of a hospital. Hospital administrators and facility managers require appropriate tools to assess the effect of these problems on hospital functionality. This research presents a probabilistic framework to assess the functionality of hospitals following...

A Multi-Objective Model to Plan Hospital Wards Capacity with Uncertainty Demand

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nobahari, Ali (Author) ; Najafi, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Rafiee, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hospital inpatient units are critical resources because of limited space and large construction investment and operating costs. The essential criteria of hospital capacity are the number of hospital beds. Inpatient beds are shared among different types of care units with different arrival rate, length of stays and needs. Hospitals face many challenges and problems in management of inpatient units, especially in advanced societies that have been increasingly faced in demand in medical units and the need for proper use of limited and scarce hospital resources is strongly felt, including existing challenges, lack of balance in the performance of inpatient units. In this project, we investigate...

A Hybrid BIM and BN-based Model to Improve the Resiliency of Hospitals' Utility Systems in Disasters

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tohidi Far, Ali (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The growing number of disasters in recent years has become a significant threat to hospital buildings' resilience and preparedness. Besides, the stochastic nature of these disasters and the complexity of the hospital building systems exacerbate the difficulty of making appropriate decisions during and after disasters. To address the issue, this research proposes a novel model that utilizes the capabilities of Bayesian Networks (BNs) and Building Information Modeling (BIM). This model helps decision-makers in hospitals and medical centers measure various effects of disasters on utility systems and analyze the consequences of their decisions. The capabilities of the proposed model are tested...
