Control of a Chaotic Process
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, a chaotic chemical process has been studied and a control method has been proposed. To do this, a reactor in which two autocatalytic reactions take place in parallel has been modeled. The catalyst decay has been considered as a separate reaction. The reactor dynamic is chaotic for a set of parameter values. In this thesis, dynamic behavior of this chaotic reactor has been analyzed. The main objective is to control the product concentration and a state feedback controller based on the process linearized model has been proposed. The suggested controller possesses integral action on desired concentration to eliminate control offset. Since concentration measurement is difficult...
Design and Implementation of a Robust Control Method for Rotor Tabilizing in a Three-pole Magnetic Bearing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
High speed and high accuracy are two of the major trends for many systems in the 21st century, such as machine tools and semiconductor equipment. For the purpose of high speed, it is well known that active magnetic bearing (AMB) is an inevitable substitute for conventional bearings. The noncontact nature of AMB brings up many advantages over the conventional bearing, including energy efficiency, low wearing, long life span, and absence of lubrication. Hence, AMBs are especially essential for high-speed rotating devices nowadays.
While the 3-pole AMB has been proposed for many years, it received little attention due to the magnetic coupling between poles that makes the 3-pole AMB system...

A Fully Differential Highly Linear Low Power Ultra Wideband LNA
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Haj Sadeghi, Khosro (Supervisor)
Abstract
This work uses a hierarchical approach for designing the integrated UWB LNA in MOSFET technology. It first offers a brief treatment of the two important types of noise: the thermal noise of channel and the gate-induced noise, in MOSFET. Then the CS and CS-CG configurations for narrow-band LNAs are considered and the requirements for the wide-band operation in UWB are specified. Noise cancelling technique is also introduced, while five wideband prototype designs, with the noise-cancelling technique used in two designs, are re-examined and tested by simulation. Some proposed methods are then applied to these designs for better performance and obtaining practical insight. The final main...
Design and Implementation of an Integrated Power Amplifier for MM-wave Imaging
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fakharzadeh Jahromi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, the design of a fully-integrated Millimeter-wave Broadband power amplifier in TSMC 0.18 µm CMOS technology is studied. The Darlington cell with cascode topology was adopted as the power cell to improve the maximum available gain of transistors in standard 0.18 µm CMOS technology to make it eligible of operating at Ka band. Furthermore, by proposing a new topology as an improved Darlington-cascode with intermediate inductor in the Darlington pair, the improvement in flat power gain at Ka band and more importantly, in available power gain of active element at high frequencies of the Ka band is achieved. The proposed power amplifier is a two stage structure with the driver stage...
Three Dimensional Flight Control Design for an Aero-Elastic Flapping Vehicle
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
This thesis is focused on development, modeling and simulation of a complete 6DOF elastic flapping air vehicle (FAV). In this respect the aerodynamic modeling is performed using a recent experimentally validated generalized modified strip theory (GMST) that considers the unsteady effect of wake and leading edge vortices via the Theodorsen function and Polhamus analogy respectively. The FAV wing structure is modeled using an elastic plate whose dynamic behavior is determined via a modal approach that is also verified with experimentation. The resulting novel integrated aerodynamic and structure (IAS) equations of motion are simulated for case study of FAV flight. Subsequently, since the IAS...
Design and Implementation of a Linear, 1 Watt, High Efficiency Power Amplifier with Controllable Output Power for UHF-RFID Application
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sharifbakhtiar, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Design and implementation of an efficient, 1 Watt, linear power amplifier (PA) with CMOS technology for UHF-RFID applications is presented in this thesis. Poor quality factor of inductors, high substrate noise and low breakdown voltage of CMOS, makes the implementation of Watt-level PAs challenging on this technology. Also the trade-off between linearity and efficiency, further hardens achieving an efficient high power linear PA. So the literature was reviewed first to come up with the appropriate structure of a linearized efficient PA. Afterwards, the structure was reformed and optimized for the application mentioned above with reasonable stability margins. Baseband relevant blocks were...
Control of Nonlinear Dynamic Systems over the Packet Erasure Channel: Applications in Remote Control of Autonomous Vehicles
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Farhadi, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Abstract: In this dissertation, the problem of tracking and stabilization of nonlinear dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel is addressed. Using the idea of linearization of nonlinear system around current working point, and by the design of an encoder, decoder, and controller for the linearized system, state tracking and reference tracking of the nonlinear system are addressed. To prove the traking and stability of the system, the strong law of large numbers and the dwell time approach are used. By computer simulations, the theoretical development is applied on the nonlinear dynamic of the unicycle model, which is a suitable model for autonomous vehicles, such as drones, unmanned...
