Analysis, Design, and Fabrication of Coplanar Waveguide to Substrate Integrated Waveguide

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadian, Arman (Author) ; Rejaei Salmasi, Behzad (Supervisor) ; Sarvari, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
An important issue in High-Frequency circuits is the transmission of electrical signals in Integrated Circuits and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). At high frequencies, however, the often used transmission lines suffer from high conductor and substrate loss as well as unwanted electromagnetic coupling to other circuit elements caused by parasitic substrate surface. One method through which both of the above problems may be solved is utilizing waveguide structures on PCBs and ICs. In this way, due to the reduction of conductor loss, a large proportion of signal passes easily. Moreover, and because of closed nature of cavity waveguides, neighboring circuits are protected against electromagnetic...

Aerodynamic Design of Axial Flow Turbine Stage

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soltaninejad, Mohammad (Author) ; Hajilouy-Benisi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Prediction techniques of axial flow turbine performance for different operating conditions are always developing due to high costs and lack of reliable empirical data. In axial gas turbines, fluid flow is three-dimensional, viscous, and highly turbulent. Nowadays, although flow field specifications are predicted accurately well using computational and numerical tools, the appropriate loss models are required for one-dimensional modeling and optimization in early design phases. In this research, an accurate and a complete investigation of aerodynamic losses in axial flow turbines will be discussed. Some suggested models for calculating losses in axial gas turbines, are considered and...

Investigating the Parity-time Symmetry in Multilevel Atomic Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Navadeh Toupchi, Morteza (Author) ; Sadighi Bonabi, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work a theoretical overview of Parity-Time symmetry and its application in multilevel atomic systems are presented. Because of equivalence between the Schrodinger equation and the paraxial propagation equation, complex index of refraction plays the role of complex potential. On the other side, the possibility to manipulate loss, gain and the index of refraction simultaneously, Optics is a fertile ground to investigate Parity-Time symmetry and one of this symmetry’s applications is reduction of loss in optical systems. Furthermore, In order to realize Parity time symmetry a four level atomic system under electromagnetically induced transparency condition is proposed. Optical gain...

Determination of Maximum and Optimal Penetration Level of Distributed Generation in Distributed Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seydali Seyf Abad, Mohammad (Author) ; Parniani, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, development of renewable electricity generation technologies, the advent of small efficient generators and increasing number of grid-connected consumers, have caused increasing interest in energy production next to the consumers locations. Distributed generation (DG) is often defined as small-scale generators that produce several kilowatts to tens of megawatts of electricity. One primary reason for using DG is its potential to reduce power losses in transmission and distribution networks. Several loss reduction methods such as capacitor placement, network reconfiguration and load management are used in distribution systems. Employing DG results in the highest loss reduction and...

Design and Construction of High-voltage Linear Regulator with Minimal Losses for Power Supply of Microwave Tube Cathode

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Osanloo, Mohsen (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microwave tubes are widely used in the telecommunications transmitters. high voltage power supplies are used to feed them. According to the specifications that arises for microwave tubes, To take advantage of these tubes need to maintain and stabilize voltage in a certain amount to be felt. If the tube supply voltage changes, the desired output parameters such as RF output power quality will change. To stabilize the voltage is within acceptable limits provided in different ways. One common method is the use of switching regulators due to the high efficiency compared to linear regulators considered. But it also will bring problems. Some of these problems can be pointed to electromagnetic...

Reinsurance Performance Evaluation and Capacity Exploration of Insurance Industry in Catastrophe risk

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gharahkhani, Marjan (Author) ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research we study the capacity on insurance industry to respond to catastrophe risk. For this purpose we use insurance factory data from 1383 to 1394 and based on variables such as fire premium, loss, payment and financial data during the period. Estimations were made based on two cases: using raw data and detrend it. The result in both cases indicate that the insurance industry does not have the sufficient capacity to respond to potential loss caused by natural disaster

Developing an Framework for Efficient Usage of Distributed Generation Expansion Plans in Distribution Network Considering the Effects of Reward-Penalty Mechanism

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirkhaef, Farzan (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on codification and implementation of regulations of supporting from development of distributed generation sources, it is expected that in future years, investment in distributed generation scheme will be welcomed by private investors impressively. Under this circumstances, distribution Company will be faced with new chances for improving quality level of their services and optimal management of penalty-reward schemes. Penalty-reward schemes is set by legislator for distribution Company in order to improve their network. One of the pioneer ways is using distributed generators. So first, distribution Companies have to find optimum places for using these generators and in the second step...
