The Concept of Truth in Husserl’s Phenomenology
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rashidian, Abdolkarim (Supervisor)
Abstract
Concept of Truth is the most fundamental concept in any intellectual activity. Knowledge systems are distinguished, above all, by their different viewpoint about truth and different criteria which they present for determining truth. Phenomenology, that its motto is returning to things as such, should introduce a definition of truth free from the presuppositions which lie in the definitions (implied or expressed ones) of it in most knowledge systems. In this project, we try to clarify concept of truth as correlation of transcendental act in philosophy of Husserl, and also study antecedents and consequents of this conception. In this project we investigate the place of the idea of “truth” in...

Semantic Externalist Answers to Epistemic Skepticism
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nasrin, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
As Davidson says, "Rorty sees the history of Western philosophy as a confused and victorless battle between unintelligible skepticism and lame attempts to answer it." Therefore we can say that the core issue of Epistemology, in various ages of history of philosophy, is the problem of skepticism. Semantic externalism according to some contemporary philosophers, like Hilary Putnam, Anthony Brueckner and Donald Davidson, gives various answers to skeptical arguments. On the other hand, skepticism also can be a challenge for semantic externalism. In this thesis, I have attempted to draw a scheme to clarify the status of these issues with regard to each other

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Azadegan, Ebrahim (Supervisor)
Abstract
This MA dissertation is dedicated to the introduction and discussion of David Chalmers’ neo-Fregean account of the semantics of linguistic terms like proper names and natural kind terms and the consequences of these discussions for the problem of consciousness. Chalmers’ neo-Fregean framework which he calls “The Two-Dimensional Semantics” is developed to defend a neo-Fregean account of the meaning of linguisting terms while acknowledging the insights of Kripke’s criticisms of the crude Fregean view. In the first chapter I will introduce Frege’s original view and Kripke’s famous attacks on that view. In the second chapter, Chalmers’ two-dimensional semantics will be introduced. In chapter...
