Dynamics of Magnetic Nanoparticles in Biologically Inspired Flows under Effect of Electric and Magnetic Fields with Application in Epilepsy Detection

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Zamani Pedram, Maysam (Author) ; Alasty, Aria (Supervisor) ; Ghaffarzadeh, Ebrahim (Supervisor) ; Shamloo, Amir (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
This thesis presents my Ph.D. research study focusing on the dynamic analysis of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) for epilepsy and blood-brain barrier (BBB) applications. In this analysis, we took into account various parameters including the magnetic field, fluid behavior, geometry and material of MNPs. Based on this computational study, the generated magnetic field in epileptic foci results in the aggregation of nanoparticles. This may offer the advantage of using MNPs as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) contrast agent. Furthermore, in this study, we also demonstrated and discussed the advantage of MNPs for crossing BBB using the external magnetic field. The outcome of this research project...

Investigation of the Influence of Nanoparticle & Nanofluidic Conduit Geometry on Ionic Transport

    Abstract
Resistive pulse sensing (RPS) has proved to be a viable method for detection and characterization of micro and nano particles. This method works based on ionic current variation inside nanopores. Modern fabrication methods have introduced different nanopore geometries for resistive pulse sensors therefore studing the effects of geometry on sensing performance of nanaopores is important. Numerical simulation has been used to study a wide variation of nanopore’s geometry configurations and study the physics behind this phenomena. Based on the results, numerical simulation could be used as a fast and easy tool for size determination for nanopore. To compare the sensing performance of different...

Synthesis and Characterization of Various Nanocarriers based on Metal-Organic Frameworks and their Applications in Biosensors and Drug Delivery Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sojdeh, Soheil (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor) ; Jamali, Sirous (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, three advanced MOF-based systems with complementary functions were designed, synthesized, characterized, and evaluated to harness the potential of these nanostructures in the fields of biosensing and cancer therapy. In the first part, a dual-mode nanosensor with a UiO-66@OPD structure was developed. By exploiting the intrinsic peroxidase-like activity of UiO-66 (Zr) and the photo-oxidation reaction of o-phenylenediamine (OPD), this system enabled highly sensitive and selective detection of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), a representative reactive oxygen species (ROS). During the oxidation process, OPD was converted to OPDox, resulting in enhanced spectral signals in both the...
