Hydrodynamic Investigation of Large Drops and Their Breakage In Liquid Liquid Packed Beds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davari, Susan (Author) ; Safekordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
packed columns are important in liquid-liquid extraction processes. In most studies, at first, drops are broken to small drops as much as possible and then they contact with packings. But, because of different reasons drops during their moving up coalescence together. So far, there is not serious investigation about hydrodynamics of these large drops and their breakage in packed columns. Thus, breakage of two different sizes of drops while collision to 3 different height of 4 different type of packings with two volumetric flow rates and in 2 cases of straight collision of drops to bed and collision to support plate has been investigated. Then size distribution of produced drops throughout...

Study of the MBR System for the Removal of Ethyl Benzene and Styrene from Petrochemical Wastewater and Process Optimization by Reducing Membrane Fouling

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hazrati, Hossein (Author) ; Shayegan, Jalaloddin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis was investigated the effect of solid retention time (SRT), Hydraulic retention time (HRT), activated carbon and suspended carrier on styrene and ethylbenzene biological removal and also on membrane fouling. In addition to the typical analysis (COD, MLSS, MLVSS, and SVI), the flocculation ability, sludge particle size distribution (PSD), FTIR analysis, excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy, soluble microbial product (SMP), extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), microscopic observations, microbial activities, microorganism population, and filamentous bacteria are considered to determine sludge characteristics. This study was done in five sections: in the...

Effect of Packing Roughness on the Cooling Tower's Performance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zahedi, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Bastani, Darush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The application of wet cooling towers is cooling the circulating water which in many processes extract the exess heat in the system. Any cooling tower involves different parts and one of these parts is packings. The effect of changing packing's charactorizations on the cooling tower's performance is significant and was studied in different researches. In this project the effect of packing roughness on the heat transfer, mass transfer and pressure drop in two arrays of packings and in different conditions of water flow rate, air flow rate and inlet water temperature was studied experimentally. For calculating and investigating the change of mass transfer coefitient, the Poppe model was ...
