Modeling Phosphorous Movement in Watersheds with SWAT (Case Study: Kan Watershed)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Delkash, Majid (Author) ; Tajrishy, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Maintaining the quality of water is of paramount importance for lakes with tourist attraction capacity. Inaccurate prediction of the quality state of lake in design phase may lead to some trouble in future. Kan River known as the main source of water feeding for the urban lake located in the north of Chitgar park passes through various villages and restaurants discharging nutrients via runoff and wastewater in the aforementioned river. Previous investigations reveal that phosphorous plays a central role in the water quality of this river and the associated downstream lake. In this research, Kan watershed, located in in the north-west of Tehran, was simulated. Considering the "Total Maximum...

Luminescent Down Shifting of the Incident Spectrum to Enhance the Performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Zahra (Author) ; Taghavinia , Nima (Supervisor) ; Mehrany, Khashayar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Luminescence down shifting (LDS) of the incident spectrum is a practical strategy that helps to increase the light harvesting efficiency by manipulating the incident spectrum instead of interfering with the active material inside the cell. In this research, for a dye-sensitized solar cell with a near-infrared sensitizer, the photovoltaic performance was enhanced remarkably with a reflective luminescent down-shifting (R-LDS) layer. Different inorganic phosphors with different luminescent quantum efficiencies have been used as the down shifting materials to increase the light-harvesting efficiency of DSSCs sensitized with TT1 and SQ1 dyes. Four different structures were examined to find the...

Biological Treatment of Dairy Wastewater (Anaerobic/Anoxic/Aerobic)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yaghoobinezhad, Farnaz (Author) ; Alemzadeh, Iran (Supervisor) ; Vosoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, start-up, performance and stability of a A2O system (Anaerobic/ Anoxic/ Oxic) combined with a Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR), using Kaldnes packings, have been investigated in treating synthetic dairy wastewater. Also the effect of influent Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Hydroulic Retention Time (HRT) and Ruturn Activated Sludge (RAS) ratio on removing pollutants such as COD, Total Nitrogen and Total Phosphorous have been studied. The experiments have been designed using ‘Design Of Experiments’ software, and at the end the results have been optimized based on desired terms. The performance and capability of the reactor in removing pollutants in 8, 12 and 16 hours of HRT,...

Study on Structure, Mechanical Properties, and Flammability of PC/ABS

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alaei, Yasaman (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Seyed Reyhani, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Polycarbonate (PC) is known as one of the engineering plastics with remarkable mechanical properties, but the application of this polymer is limited due to its high notch sensitivity. Blending polycarbonate with other polymers such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is a method to resolve this disadvantage. PC/ABS blends are commonly used in automotive industry, electrical and electronic devices. As PC and ABS are not completely miscible, a variety of compatibilizers are used to achieve a suitable microstructure and high engineering properties. Considering crucial applications of PC/ABS blends, different flame retardants are also used to reduce the flammability. These flame retardants...
