Investigation of Fouling In Clarification of Non-Alcoholic Beer with Crossflow Microfiltration Membranes
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the present work, numerical simulation of cross-flow microfiltration of non-alcoholic beer in a tubular membrane has been studied. Finite element analysis was used as a powerful tool for simulation. The feed stream, which flows mainly tangentially to the porous membrane surface, is modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations. Porous wall conditions are described by the Darcy equation that relates the pressure gradient within a flow stream to the flow rate through the permeable wall. A pilot-scale cross-flow membrane filter was developed to verify the model results. Ceramic tubular membranes were used in this study. The cross-flow velocity of the feed solution was controlled at the laminar...

Abstract
In this study, experimental results of Ahvaz produced water treatment obtained in ultrafiltration process using a polymeric membrane formed from Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) with 0.2 µm poreshave been reported. In this process the effects of different factors including transmembrane pressure (TMP), cross flow velocity (CFV) and feed temperature on permeate flux, membrane fouling resistance and TOC rejection was investigated. The results show that optimum conditionswere found in the range of TMP: 1.5-3 bar, CFV: 1-1.5 m/s and operating temperature 40°C.Results show that under optimum conditions the final permeate flux for produced water of Asmari outlet of Skimmer unit was 30 L/m2.h, and the...
Construction of a New Membrane Bioreactor for Industrial Wastewater Treatment
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Seifkordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Hemati, Mohmoud (Co-Advisor) ; Rekabdar, Fatemeh (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
In recent years membrane bioreactors (MBR) were widely used as an advanced process for industrial wastewater treatment. But fouling issue causes some restrictions in these systems. So for fouling reduction many researches were done.In this study for fouling improvement, blending of hydrophilic polymer (PAN) with main polymer PVDF was used. Blending membrane in phase inversion process with DMAC as solvent and water as non-solvent was made. For pore-forming in membranes, PVP as hydrophilic additive with three different composition was added and then for more enhancement of antifouling property of membrane, TiO2 nanoparticles with four different composition were added to polymeric...
Improve the Structure of Membrane Bioreactor to Reduce Fouling for Industrial Waste Water Purification
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Seifkordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Hemati, Mahmood (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
In the presence project by using of hydrophilic polymer, Cellulose acetate (CA), we tried to modify the membrane made of Polyvinylidine fluoride (PVDF). The membranes were made by phase inversion method. In five levels, at least 10% and at most 30%, CA was added to casting solution. The hydrophilicity of membranes’ surface and pore size was increased. The permeation of the neat membrane of PVDF was less than 10 , on the other hand the permeation of the membranes, which were made by adding CA, was increased up to 500 . The increment of CA more than 20% reduced the porosity of membrane. In the next step to reduce the irreversibility fouling tried to reduce the pore size by adding some...
Simulation of the Blood Flow in a Stenotic Left Coronary Bifurcation to Study the Effects on the Endothelial Cells
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Morphology and alignment of endothelial cells (ECs) have great influence on plaque formation. These alignments are based on the cyclic strains and wall shear stress (WSS) on the arterial wall. In the present study, cyclic strains and WSS are investigated to predict the secondary plaque locations downstream of the primary stenosis. Therefore, left coronary artery (LCA) with its branches to left anterior descending (LAD) and left circumflex (LCX) are 3D located on a virtual sphere to consider the cardiac motion. Stenoses are placed at the beginning of the bifurcation with varying degrees from 40% to 70% based on diameter reduction. Healthy coronary is also constructed to compare with those of...
Improvement of Reverse Osmosis Membrane by Grafting Hydrophilic Hydrocarbon on Membrane Surface
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mousavi, Abbas (Supervisor) ; Ramezani Saadat Abadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, surface modification of Thin-film composite (TFC) membranes was performed in order to enhancement of its performance and chlorine resistance. TFC membranes was prepared through the interfacial polymerization between m-phenylenediamine (MPD) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) on the polysulphone support membrane and surface modification performed through redox initiated graft polymerization of acrylic amide followed by acrylic acid. The successful surface modification of TFC membranes was evident from attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), contact angle (θ), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). Changes in...
