Investigation of Rheological Behavior of Polymer on EOR in Carbonate Reservoir

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Nourani, Meysam (Author) ; Ramazani Saadat Abadi, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Emadi, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The major objectives of this study are to analytically and experimentally investigate the rheological behavior of polymers in the fractured carbonate medium based on the polymer solution properties and operational conditions. The intrinsic and apparent viscosity of high molecular weight-partially hydrolyzed poly (acrylamide) which is mainly used in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes hasbeen investigated in reservoir conditions. Since, the EOR efficiency of hydrolyzed poly (acrylamide) is very sensitive to the temperature and salinity of petroleumreservoirs; investigations have been carried out at different possible reservoirtemperatures using high saline polymer solutions. The parameters...

Preparation of Polyacrylamide Nanoparticle with Nanoscale Coating to Control Solubility of Polymer during Polymer Flooding Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tamsilian,Yousef (Author) ; Ramezani Saadat, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hydrophilic polymers are widely used in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes to increase water viscosity during polymer flooding. However, these polymers increase the viscosity of injected water in undesirable strands, before reaching considerable positions that make some problems in polymer flooding process such as thermal, mechanical, bacterial degradation, surface absorption and undesirable plugging. In this study, a novel core-shell structure of polyacrylamide as an active polymer and nanoscale coating polystyrene as a shell polymer was designed and prepared to intelligently control mobility ratio in oil reservoirs and overcome weakness and limitations of classical polymer flooding....

Development of Polymerization Method to Produce Spherical Polymer Particles with Nanoscale Porosity in Packed Beds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Mehdi (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; Abd Khodaei, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor) ; Nematollah Zadeh, Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Porous polymeric particles have the extensive application in various sciences and various methods have been introduced for production of these particles. Depending on method of production, porous polymeric beads can be produced in diverse shapes, pore size, pores interconectivity, surface morphology and chemical properties. In common methods for production of porous polymeric particles, tuning the size and porosity is difficult or even impossible. Porous polymeric beads with the vast surface area and good functionality have been applied for adsorption of various materials. The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate a new procedure for the production of porous polymeric...

Modeling, Simulation and Production of Nanoparticles PAM by Inverse Emulsion Polymerization Method

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abdi, Ardeshir (Author) ; Ramazani Saadat abadi, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Abedini, Hossein (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this project, inverse emulsion polymerization (IEP) modeling of poly acrylamid (PAM) using population balance equations (PBEs) has been performed. For this porpuse zero-one and pseudo- bulk models and hybrid model including the zero-one and pseudo- bulk are applied based on the process conditions. The effects of surfactant steric barrier and surfactant reaction with radicals including monomeric radicals on the radical entry rate into the particle have been taken into account for these models. In the modeling, coagulation phenomenon was included by considering the effects of non-DLVO forces such as hydration and steric forces in addition to the DLVO forces. Simulation results for zero-...

    Abstract
Polymer flooding can yield considerable increase in percentage recovery. However, there are limitations with the existing polymer flooding technology, such as thermal, mechanical, bacterial degradation, surface absorption and undesirable plugging. A novel nanocore shell structure of polyacrylamide and polystyrene designed and prepared to intellectually control mobility ratio in oil reservoirs and overcome weakness and limitations of classical polymer flooding. Polyacrylamide particles have been obtained using spray drying of dilute solution of polyacrylamide. Then, polystyrene shell has been produced on polyacryamide particles by in-situ polymerization of styrene monomer in hydrophobic...

Fabrication and Evaluation of the Effect of Hydrolysis on Rheological Properties and Thermal Stability of Acrylamide Copolymers Containing Highly Hydrophobic Monomers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farhadi, Somayeh (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of polymers in the EOR process is very common. Most of these polymers are sensitivity to temperature, salt, and the presence of bacteria. Among these materials, hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) is the most widely used. Due to the sensitivity of HPAM in harsh conditions like temperature and salinity of the environment, modification of this polymer by hydrophobic groups can be very effective. Hydrophobic-hydrophilic associative polymers have shown unique rheological properties and high thermal stability, which is due to the presence of a small percentage (up to two percent) of hydrophobic monomers in their structure. Despite these excellent properties for acrylamide copolymers...
