A Survey and Practical Comparison of Top Techniques on Fault tolerant CPU Design

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zamani Foroushani, Javad (Author) ; Tabandeh, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Confronting with cosmic rays in electronic parts of space systems, especially in processors and their peripherals, has always been noteworthy topic. By decreasing the aspects of transistors and their voltages, fault occurrence problem in digital integrated circuits not only has been increased in space systems, but also infects on mission critical systems that work at ground level. Since there are many reports about the effect of high energy particles, like neutrons which are present in earth atmosphere, in sub-100 nm digital circuits. In this thesis we are discussing about architecture level techniques for hardening processors against soft errors of radiation. It has been done for each part of...

Reliability Improvement in Aging-sensitive Units of a Processor

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Rohbani, Nezam (Author) ; Miremadi, Ghasem (Supervisor) ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Despite the advantages of shrinking transistors’ dimensions, e.g. decrease in power consumption and fabrication cost and increase in their switching speed, it has an adverse impact on some characteristics of nano-scale (less than 130nm) transistors that can reduce the system lifetime. Bias Temperature Instability (BTI) and Hot Carrier Injection (HCI) are amongst the most important adverse effects of transistor shrinkage. These two effects, are known as transistor aging, decrease the switching speed of the transistors by increasing the threshold voltage and decreasing the charge carriers’ mobility in the channel of transistors. Temperature, operating voltage, and the size of transistors have...

Embedded Camera Design for Machine Vision Traffic Aplication

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dowlatzadeh, Shayan (Author) ; Gholampour, Iman (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the advent of technology, small in size sensors, memory, speeding up the processor and lowering the cost, it is possible to build an embedded camera system. The goal of this project is to design and build an embedded camera system so it can execute any set of necessary algorithms as depending on the application. In this project, two models of embedded camera systems have been presented as an integrated system and a system with independent units. To design the integrated embedded system, ZYNQ processor is used and two structures are presented in the form of hardware-software and hardware design. In hardware-software design, image processing operations are done by software and in hardware...

Design of Monitoring and Control System for Ion Implanter Gases

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Baharian, Hossein (Author) ; Rashidian, Bijan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Very dangerous gases are used in ion implanter machines. Opening and closing the valves of these gases can be very dangerous. In this project, these valves are inspected, monitored and opened and closed from a safe distance. To do this, we must monitor and control the above system by using the latest and most efficient technologies available and with the least delay. For accurate and precise monitoring, clear images should be obtained from the location and changes should be detected, and the device can be controlled very quickly with the necessary commands. To do this, one must have an accurate and comprehensive knowledge of processors and communication protocols, and also pay attention to...
