What is it to be Physical?
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this text to find the answer of the question “ what is it to be physical” in a definition form or a scheme of the term physical, firstly we sought for a possible consensus among recent physicists and philosophers. But from their answers not only we did not find any clear consensus but also most of them confess that the term is ambiguous and unclear. In a general aspect, we can categorize the answers to two theoretical and realistic perspective. The theoretical perspective, beside circularity and Hempel’s triviality, seems not to present any criteria for being physical. In realistic perspective, it seems that there is no ontologic constraint for being physical, that is from “being...

The Problem of Error Theory about Normative Properties and Its Consequences
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Azadegan, Ebrahim (Supervisor)
Abstract
This MA dissertaion is dedicated to the discussion of the error theory about all normative judgements and its consequences. This theory contains two main claims: 1- normative judgements are beliefs that ascribe normative properties, and 2- no normative property exists. In this dissertation, in particular, Bart Streumer’s arguments against the competitors of this theory are discussed and criticized. Streumer argues against non-reductivism, reductivism, and non-cognitivism in three separate arguments. In another argument, he tries to show that the error theory about all normative judgements is unbelievable. In addition to discussing Streumer’s arguments, I also propose new formulations of some...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
It is undeniable that there is a great disagreement in the every field of religion. Reductionists argue that awareness of disagreements reduces the justification and rationality of beliefs, including religious beliefs. In contrast, non-reductionists believe that while reductionism may be true in other domains, it is not necessarily true in religion, because religious beliefs have characteristics that can deny a reductionist argument. They are in the realm of religion. In this thesis, I will discuss issues related to those characteristics that can deny reductionist argument in the realm of religion. In this thesis, I try to show that the arguments and responses presented in defense of the...
