Effects of Trim tab on High Speed Vessel‘s Performance
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sayyadi, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wide range application of high speed marine crafts in marine industry and other related industries results in attempts to improve the performance of such vessels. The main ideas of using control surfaces in high speed planing crafts are the change of the high speed planing craft‘s resistance due to change of their running attitudes and wave response mitigation of this vessels. Control surfaces produce forces and a pitching moment due to a pressure distribution caused by them, which can be used to alter the running attitude of high speed marine crafts. The present work contains a comprehensive study on trim tab as a control surface for the high speed crafts. The results of this study condense...
Nonlinear Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Membranes
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study deals with the monotonic behavior of reinforced concrete membranes. In the first step, small reinforced concrete membrane panels were studied. Examining the available test results on reinforced concrete panels, a new set of stress-strain relations for normal strength concrete and mild steel bars embedded in concrete. The salient features of the proposed constitutive laws are: 1) considering the effect of reinforcement ratio on average stress-strain relationships of cracked concrete; and 2) considering the gradual reduction of average stiffness of steel bars embedded in concrete. Equilibrium, compatibility, and constitutive relationships were incorporated into an algorithm to...
Improving the Robustness of Image Watermarking for Publicly Copyright-Proving
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamzad, Mansour (Supervisor)
Abstract
The advent of Internet and advancement of computer technologies have enabled convenient and fast exchange of multimedia so the illegal reproduction and modification of digital media has become increasingly serious. Hence, how to protect the intellectual property rights of digital multimedia is an imperative issue. Digital watermarking is one of the solutions to prevent unauthorized use of images. Traditional digital watermarking techniques embed a watermark such as logo, trademark, or copyright information into a host image so that it is not perceptible. These techniques, depending on the amount of embedded data, will distort the content of host image which results in quality degradation of...
Plastic Analysis of Steel Grillages Considering Bending-Tortion Iteraction
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Grillage structures are used at roofs of some buildings and community halls and shopping centers and airports, or structures that used as bowers. The grillages is constructed with steel or concrete beams. In most of the carried out Researchs the twisting effect on these structures has been ignored. In this research the behavior of such structures with considering regulation and softwares limits by some simple programable assumptions is simulated. So with using MATLAB software a program extracted for grillages nonlinear analysis and its results was compared with common engineering software. In This approach in addition to pure bending, bending – torsion interaction is considered too and I...
Modeling, Control and Improvement of High-Speed Crafts Behavior in Calm Water and Waves
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Fard Tehrani, Majed (Supervisor) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, planing boats have been used in more exposed areas, for instance as patrol boats, pilot boats, coast guard and small naval vessels. When such a small vessel operating in a rough-water environment, frequently experiences violent motions and vertical acceleration. Even on calm water, porpoising may occur and may be severe as the speed is increased. Operation of the crew, equipments and overall operability of the vessel always suffer from mentioned motions. In the present study, the impact of fixed and controlled interceptors on a planing crafts hydrodynamic and seakeeping quality is investigated through application of an experimental and theoretical methods. Two scaled-down...
Study of Microstructural Changes Associated with Internal Resistance of a Li-ion Battery
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asgari, Sirous (Supervisor)
Abstract
As one of the main features of Li-Ion batteries, internal resistance severely affects performance and characteristics of these batteries e.g. output power and working voltage. In this study, we tried to understand role of internal resistance on microstructure development and provide a correlative relation between microstructural features and performance of lithium-ion batteries. To catch this target, four types of Li-Ion battery chose, varying cathode type. These batteries were exposed to both normal and severe cycling conditions. Regarding to the key role of current rate on the performance of Li-ion batteries, an extensive research on different types of batteries at various current rates...
Investigating the Lowest Amount of Fibers in Improving the Strength and Ductility of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
It used to be widely accepted as a virtue in engineering society that, fibers are generally used as mechanism to resist cracking and increasing the strength of concrete in some cases. Since 1990, fibers are usually used in concrete to control cracking due to plastic shrinkage and to drying shrinkage. They also reduce the permeability and bleeding of concrete. Some types of fibers produce greater impact, abrasion and shatter-resistance in concrete. Studies turn this notion to cognition that among all types of existing fibers, Steel Fiber and Polypropylene Fiber resulted the highest improved behavior in concrete. The Ultra-High-Performance Concrete which heated the debate in recent papers...
Extensive Comparison between Semi-rigid Connection and Investigation of a New Semi-rigid Steel Connection
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
Steel structures are one of the most common structures in the world. One of the main parts of these structures is the connections, which are divided into three main categories of fixed, semi-rigid and joints, according to
the different criteria provided in the guidelines and codes. Perhaps the main challenge facing civil engineers has been designing efficient connections against lateral loads (seismic loads, wind loads). This issue has received more and more attention from designers due to the poor performance of the fasteners against lateral loads. Investigating and evaluating semi-rigid connections as one of the main part of steel structures against various loads, especially lateral...
