Modeling and Simulation of Water Distribution in the Various Layers of Polymer Fuel Cell
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Baghalha, Morteza (Supervisor) ; Khorashe, Farhad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fossil fuel are energy resources in decline. In recent years, fuel cell have become as a source of energy to replace conventional systems .Among the various types of fuel cells, PEMFCs (proton exchange membrane fuel cells) possess a series of highly advantageous features such as a low-operating temperature, sustained operation at high-current density, low weight, compactness, potential for low cost and volume, long stack life, fast start-ups and suitability for discontinuous operation. Water management is one of the most critical and challenging problems. There is a delicate balance between the membrane hydration and avoiding cathode from flooding. Cathode flooding occurs when the water...
Controller Design for A Nonlinear System in the Absence of Full State Measurements
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study design of controller for a nonlinear system in the presence of state observer was investigated. First, nonlinear observers including non-adaptive and adaptive versions and their design procedures were studied. Then nonlinear adaptive controllers, based on sliding mode, feedback linearization and back-stepping techniques were implemented in the presence of observer dynamics. Two versions of adaptive law were proposed for unknown parameters identification in feedback linearization and sliding mode techniques. A new adaptive law was proposed to relax the restrictive condition that is used in adaptive observer design. The closed loop stability of back stepping technique was studied...
Stability Analysis of Different Control Strategies in the Presence of Nonlinear Dynamic of Final Control Element
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Final control elements usually have nonlinear dynamics which affect the stability of the closed- loop system. Four most common types of these nonlinearities are dead-zone, backlash, hysteresis and saturation. Because most of final control elements especially in chemical processes are subjected to saturation constraint and also due to lack of generaland practical control scheme to handle this limitation, our concentration will be focused on saturation nonlinearity. In this work, based on sliding mode control strategy, a control scheme for multi-input multi-state systems in the presence of input saturation is presented. Some numerical simulations are carried out to show the effectiveness of...
Design and Manufacturing of a Digital and an Analogue Compensators for Current Transformer (CT)
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Sanaye-Pasand, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Current transformers (CTs) are the most common current sensors in power system and use with measuring instruments and protective relays. Saturation of the protective CT threatens the proper operation of relays, while, the ratio error in a measuring CT directly reduces the accuracy of power system state estimation. In this dissertation, firstly, a test device has been introduced to identify the parameters of CT low-frequency model. Afterward, a digital compensator has been proposed to suppress the adverse effect of CT saturation. This compensator is capable to reproduce both the saturated inrush current and fault current that distinguishes it from other proposed methods. In addition, this...
Numerical modeling of The Deformation of Rockfill Dams (Case Study: Masjed-soleyman Dam)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Rockfill dams are a kind of gravity dams that a major part of the dam’s body is made of rock particles. The specific feature of these dams is the high settlement of rockfill layers so, numerical simulation of the behavior of these dams for predicting their settlement is of prime importance. However, the normal procedure of numerical modeling and the analysis of stresses and deformations using common engineering softwares usually does not work because the behavior of rockfills is not well understood. Evaluating the mechanical behavior of rockfill layers is not usually possible in the laboratory because of the large dimensions of these particles which are sometimes larger than one meter....
Experimental Study of Flow Pattern, Relative Permeability and Saturation of Three Phase Flow
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, the Oil industry, much progress has been made in terms of increasing the productivity of reservoirs. In this method, generally one or more fluids are injected into wells to help, extract more oil from the reservoir. Knowledge of the main parameters in this flow of two or three phase fluid in the reservoir is most important. If fractured reservoirs are studied, the multiphase flow are much more complex and require more information about that. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of fractured reservoirs and fluid flow within them, little research has been done on them. The studies about two or three phase flow in fractured reservoirs are classified in two groups, modeling and laboratory...
FoM Optimization in Class-C Oscillators
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Safarian, Amin Ghasem (Supervisor)
Abstract
A key point in designing class-C oscillators is maximizing the Figure-of-Merit (FoM). For this purpose, changing the oscillator’s structure or adjusting its bias current may be used. Previous literatures mostly limit their efforts to the first case, leaving the issue of determining the proper bias current almost untouched. In this work, a new approach recruiting DC voltage of the common source node of the switching pair transistors as an indicator has been presented. Using theoretical analysis, it has been shown that maximizing this voltage will optimize the oscillator in term of the FoM. The proposed indicator has the advantages of not introducing any loading effect to the output node, and...
