Fabrication of Superhydrophobic Coating to Reduce Drag force with Anti-Corrosion and Anti-biofouling Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fakhri, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Mousavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Growth of the fuel consumption in the world and the greenhouse effect of its pollution get industrial managers and environmental activities attention. Skin drag force has a significant role in energy uses. The drag reduction property of superhydrophobic surfaces shows a new approach for investigators to reduce energy uses. Surface with 150° contact angle called superhydrophobic surface. In this project, a superhydrophobic coating is developed based on acrylic hydroxyl resin by silica nanoparticles. This coating can be sprayed on any surface. Using the Iron oxid particles and silica nanoparticles together produces hierarchical micro-nano structures. This coating has a 160.1° contact angle on...

Design and Fabrication of Water and Oil Separation Membranes Using Nano Technology and Wettability Properties of Surfaces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heydari, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to population growth, the demand for water supply has increased. This need has drawn attention to the use of consumed and treatable water resources. Organic pollutants are a key source of water pollution. On the other hand, petrochemical oil pollution and frequent oil accidents during oil production or maritime transport have become one of the environmental problems. There are different methods for water and oil separation and water purification that in the present project, selective separation can be achieved by using hydrophobic materials and surface roughness and creating surfaces with two properties: superhydrophobic and ultra-oil friendly. This method is also very effective, cheap...

Dynamics and Heat transfer of Two-phase Non-Newtonian Fluids in Superhydrophobic Channels

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahsavari, Arghavan (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When the fluid passes through the microchannel, some energy is lost due to drag force and pressure drop. One of the methods used in the last few decades to optimize energy consumption is creating superhydrophobic surfaces in microchannels. These surfaces, with their features such as increasing the contact angle and reducing the contact angle hysteresis, can reduce energy loss, which is due to the presence of unevenness on the surface, and by trapping air and creating a two-phase flow, they reduce the drag force. On the other hand, the air trapped inside these irregularities will also affect the heat transfer of the passing fluid in the microchannel, which by creating resistance in the...

Synthesis and Characterization of Boron Nitride Composites Based on Bio- and Synthetic Polymers and Investigation of Their Applications

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Habibi, Navid (Author) ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, the crude oil spills in the oceans and the excessive emission of electromagnetic waves in the living environment have threatened human health. Therefore, different methods have been considered to deal with each of these two threats. Recently, the use of polymeric boron nitride composites in the production of crude oil absorbents and electromagnetic wave shieldings has received attention due to its thermal conductivity, thermal and chemical stability. In the first step of this research, superhydrophobic composites of polyurethane sponges were prepared by boron nitride and electrically conductive nanomaterials that had photothermal and electrothermal properties. The results...
