    Modeling Employee’s Preference for Telecommuting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nowrouzian, Roosbeh (Author) ; Kermanshah, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study examines four models of the individual’s preference for home- and center-based telecommuting. Issues concerning the estimation of discrete models when the alternatives are non-exclusive are discussed. Two binary logit models are presented, one on the preference to telecommute from a center versus not telecommuting from a center, and the other on the preference to telecommute from a center over telecommuting from home. A model is also estimated on the following four alternatives: preferring not to telecommute, preferring either form of telecommuting, preferring to telecommute from home, and preferring to telecommute from a center. A comprehensive model of two distinct dimensions of...

An Investigation of a Fuzzy Transformation of Variables on the Robustness of Choice Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sherafatipour, Saeid (Author) ; Pourzahedi, Hosein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Estimation of demand, for example, for transportation is an important issue for the planning and programming of various systems. Thus, enhancing the predictability power of such models is of high value. Demand stems from choices of individuals, and choice is subject to uncertainty and fuzziness. Uncertainty comes from many factors including incomplete information of decision-maker, and fuzziness comes from many other factors including personal perception regarding the value of the variables affecting choice. This study tries to introduce a new approach in building choice models, in which variables are transformed into another variable by the help of a global wisdom. This wisdom shows the...

Examining Employees' Preference toward Telecommuting with an Emphasis on Women Employees

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Arabikhan, Farzad (Author) ; Kermanshah, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The object of this investigation is to explore women employees' preferences toward telecommuting. As the increasing role of women in social and economical activities expands their contributions to urban traffic and the importance of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) including telecommuting, which is a new strategy in management and modification of commuting pattern, needs to be addressed. The sample used in this research has obtained from the questionnaire distributed at seven governmental and semi-governmental organizations. The data is used to generate models which are applied to examine women telecommuting preferences, and their preferences from home or local offices. The amount of...

A Novel Management Information System (MIS) Framework to Achieve E-Working Paradigm Based on Cloud Computing Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmani Lahoot, Asal (Author) ; Fatahi Valilai, Omid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
E-Work is defined as collaborative, communication-enabled and computer-supported productive activities in distributed organizations consist of humans with robots and autonomous systems. From the levels of nano and micro systems and devices all the way to the level of global enterprise networks, productive work is reshaped by e-Work. The current literature emphasizes on the role of Knowledge management as an enabler of E-Working paradigm. The four main circles of knowledge in e-Work related are: ‘‘e-Work”, ‘‘Integration Coordination and Collaboration”, ‘‘Distributed Decision Support” and ‘‘Active Middleware”. It has been generally recognized that computer and communication science and...

Joint Modelling of Telecommuting’s Feasibility and Freguency for Employees, Application of Copula Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kamal, Kimia (Author) ; Kermanshah, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since expansion of communication technology, telecommuting has gained attention from transportation planners as an approach in field of demand management. In this research, joint effects of feasibility of telecommuting for the employees of each organization and the relevant frequency of employees have been evaluated by using the copula model as the most recent conventional way of developing a joint model since the last few years. The result of telecommuting acceptance is that after presenting the project to each organization, the head employer measures the appropriateness of the project for employees and if he reaches a consensus on the success of the project, the employees get involved and...

Possible Impacts of Telework Initiated by COVID-19 Outbreak on Teleworkers’ Psychological Well-being: A Qualitative Study

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saki, Mana (Author) ; Alavi, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research explores the impacts of the telework initiated by the outbreak of COVID-19, which is being called “emergent telework” in this research, on psychological well-being of teleworkers. As for the nature of emergent telework which is a new and unique phenomenon, a qualitative research is conducted. In order to do so, 15 in-depth interviews were held with employees from product teams of 11 organizations, and the interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. General conditions of teleworking are identified in two categories named as “not working adjacent to coworkers” and “being away from the physical environment of the workplace”. Emergent telework, alongside the general...
