Abstract
Ultrasound waves have been one of the passions of researchers of different fields for many years. In recent decades the potential of ultrasound waves for trapping and manipulating micro-particles has been noted by many researchers. “Acoustic Tweezers” is the name given to this application of ultrasonic devices. The advantages of this device over its optical counterpart, named “Optical Tweezers”, are its low price, ease of use, biocompatibility and its capability of being used in opaque media. In acoustic tweezers, particles can be trapped either by making standing acoustic waves, or by making highly focused narrow beams and trapping the particles in potential wells. In this research...
Design and Build an Acoustic Tweezers and Move up the Polystyrene Particles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Amjadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Ultrasound waves have attracted substantial attention due to their potential for trapping the small particles, which cannot be handled by usual tweezers. The acoustic tweezer is a technology that is able to tarp and control the movement of micrometer to millimeter objects by standing or focused sound waves. Acoustic tweezers are the subject of many researches around the world, due to simplicity, cost-effective, biocompatibility and most important better performance in non-transparent optical environments, compared with optical tweezers. In this project, by using a ring piezoelectric and a power amplifier, an acoustic tweezer was designed and constructed. Moreover, the polystyrene particles...

Abstract
Wettability of reservoir rock is one of the effective parameters in determining the mechanisms of production and consequently the amount of residual oil inside the porous media. In addition, the salinity of injected water is important factor in the recovery of reservoir oil in waterflooding. On the other hand, the role of the hysteresis on the residual oil saturation as well as the flow functions such as relative permeability curves is very important. In this project, the effects of reservoir wettability and injected water salinity on the hysteresis and residual oil saturation in two-phase water-oil flow systems are studied. Core-scale experiments were carried out using sandpacks and were...
Pore-scale Simulation of Trapping Phenomena and Hysteresis Effect in Porous Media
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fatemi, Mobeen (Supervisor)
Abstract
So far, many studies have been carried out on the core-scale regarding the effects of hysteresis on the macro-scale properties of systems including fluids and porous rock, however, many issues related to the physics of the problem (especially regarding the way fluids are distributed and the trapping of the non-wetting phase) at the pore-scale need further investigation. In the process of multiphase fluid flow in porous media, hysteresis refers to the dependence of the results of the fluids’ displacements on the history of fluid saturation and the direction of saturation changes (increasing or decreasing). The first step to investigate the hysteresis effect is to determine the amount of fluid...
