Prioritizing Patients in the Aftermath of Mass Casualty Events Considering Different Resources
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shavandi, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the aftermath of mass-casualty events, main resources may be overwhelmed by the sudden jump in demand. To ration these resources with considering the patients priority for help, mean triage. For prioritizing the patient for help, the limitation of resources should be considered. These resources can be different. This thesis at the first step investigates how the priority assignment can be done in a clearing system and what the potential benefits would be when there are same resources in the system. At the next step, the difference between resources is considered. So in this thesis, the problem of priority assignment of patients in an emergency system is modeled and analyzed at first with...
Simulating the Provision of Services to the Injured at Transfer Points and Providing a Forecast of the Number of Resources Needed
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Habibi, Moslem (Supervisor)
Abstract
In mass casualty incidents such as earthquakes, hospitals and emergency response systems face significant challenges. To manage this critical situation, transfer points have been introduced as a strategic solution, enhancing the speed and efficiency of casualty transfers, thereby improving the overall performance of hospital services. The aim of this study is to develop a discrete-event simulation model that simulates and evaluates the provision of services to casualties at transfer points while predicting the optimal number of resources needed, including ambulances, triage staff, and medical personnel, in various emergency conditions. Additionally, a location model is designed to optimally...
