Ground Squeezing Effects on the Analysis and Design of Tunnels
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sadaghiani, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Ground squeezing is defined as time-dependent shear displacement of rock mass that causes the decrease of the calculated excavation area of tunnels.Ground squeezing is one of the phenomenons that causes serious problems including the collapse of tunnels’ walls and TBM jamming during the construction of tunnels. Hence, the assessment of ground squeezing is an essential issue in tunneling. In this thesis, different ground squeezing potential prediction methods will be assessed. These methods consist of empirical, semi-emperical, analytical, and numerical methods. After assessing the ground squeezing potential, if it is evaluated high for a project, it will be required to consider the...
Correction to Photonic Radiation of Black Hole due to Interactions
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Arfaei, Hesamaddin (Supervisor)
Abstract
The study of quantum effects for black holes indicates that they can thermally radiate different particles. In this thesis, we investigte the radiation of charged spin zero particles and show that these particles can interact with each other and as a result produce photons. These produced photons make a correction to the emitted photons from the black hole. By caculating this correction, we conclude that interactions have a small effect on the radiation spectrum of the photon
Numerical Analysis of Mechanized Tunneling Effects in Different Conditions on Internal Forces and Settlement of Superstructures
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research with Finite Element Methods in ABAQUS, numerical modeling has done in three-dimensions, which can be used to determine the effect of different factors on the surface settlement. Also, various factors such as geotechnical conditions, tunnel diameter, tunnel depth, the impact of the thickness of the segments and the amount of eccentricity of the structure relative to the longitudinal axis of the tunnel considered in this study. Face Pressure Supports, and Grout Injection Pressures are taken into account, too.Tunnel drilling causes a change in the displacement area and creates a changing zone around the tunnel. In this regard, not only adjacent buildings will be affected by...
Binding Energy of Multi-Partite Quantum Systems based on Quantum Thermodynamics Viewpoint
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Rezakhani, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Examining composite quantum systems through quantum thermodynamics, we face the new concept of binding energy. In this thesis, we are going to present a general definition for binding energy in quantum systems which covers any kind of interactions. First of all, we examine the possibility of energy exchange in a quantum system using quantum thermodynamics. In this theory, energy exchanges of an open quantum system may be divided in to two portions: heat and work; due to an accepted definition, heat is the portion of energy that is supposed to change entropy, while work has no influence on that. In this research, we restrict our calculations to the systems which are thermally closed and...
A Study of Intragroup Block-Trading Incentives on the Tehran Stock Exchange
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Heidari, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Using the data of the Tehran Stock Exchange, we analyze the characteristics and explanatory factors of major intra-group and out-of-group transactions and test the tunneling hypothesis in intra-group transactions. We find that out-of-group transactions can be largely explained by changes in control or management, firm size, and the type of the firm. However, intra-group transaction properties mostly depend on the difference between the parent company's cash flow rights in the buyer and seller companies. Also, in the final analysis, we conclude that many intra-group transactions are made to change the structure of the business groups, especially when investment companies buy shares of listed...
Numerical Analysis of Tunnel under Seismic Loads in Sandy Soils
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research with Finite Element Method in ABAQUS, a Number of Numerical modeling has done in two-dimensions, which can be used to determic the effect of different factors on the seismic vulnerability of tunnels. Also, varios factor such as Geotechnical conditions, tunnel depth, tunnel thickness and ground water is considered in this study. One of the parameters considered in designing tunnels is the ability of the tunnel’s lining to withstand the seismic and geotechnical loads. Each section of the tunnels are designed according to the maximum stress witch created due to the earthquake. this stress’s created in tunnels can be devided in to 3 category : the axial force, the Shear force and...
Theoretical and Computational Investigation of Quantum Plasmonic Properties of Nanocluster Dimers
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Zahra (Supervisor)
Abstract
In today's era, metal nanoparticles play an important role in technologies emerging from different sciences, such as chemistry, physics, optics, material science, due to their unique characteristics. In the development of nanooptics science, it can be said that metal nanoparticles play an important role. The ability of conductive electrons collective oscillation causes surface charge density fluctuations in nanoparticles, this phenomenon is known as surface plasmons. Surface plasmons are surprisingly coupled with light and cause the significant increase in the intensity of optical fields induced in nanoparticles. Therefore, with the presence of localized surface plasmons or plasmon...
Market Reaction to Block Transactions of State-owned Firms
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Keshavarz Haddad, Gholamreza (Supervisor) ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, the effect of investment and transfer of state-owned companies on stock transactions on the day of trading in the stock market is investigated using data related to 54 major transactions in the years 2007 to 2020 using the event study method. And the results of this research can provide evidence for the positive and negative effects of major shareholders on the company, including monitoring and tunneling. The results of the research show that investment transactions have a positive return on stock trading days and divestment transactions have a negative effect on stock trading days. This effect in the case of investment transactions first increases and then decreases with...
Tunneling: Evidence from Business Groups of Iran
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Objective: Business groups that create pyramidal ownership structures are a common form of corporate ownership in developing countries such as India, Chile, and Iran. These groups, along with the benefits they create, separate voting rights from cash flow rights; As a result, the ultimate owner will control them while having a small share of the cash flows of the companies in the lower layers of the group. This phenomenon provides tunneling motivation for controlling owners; incentivizing them to transfer resources and assets of their subsidiary companies (transferring resources from companies with less cash flow rights to companies with more cash flow rights) to gain private benefits at the...
