Fetal ECG Signal Extraction from Maternal Abdominal Recording Using Source Separation Methods
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
Analysis of performance of fetal heart is very important for monitoring its health. In recent years a lot of research is performed on recording electronic signals from mother abdomen which consist of combination of maternal ECG and fetal ECG. Purpose of this thesis is investigating methods. For evaluation of different methods simulated ECG dataset and Dalsy dataset as real data were used. In this thesis Wavelet and EMD denoising as single channel methods and ICA, PiCA and deflation as multichannel methods are used. At last novel combinations of these methods is proposed which outperforms existing methods
Interictal Noise Cancellation Based on Combination of ICA-based and Wavelet-based Denoising Approaches
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
Interictal EEG signals are very critical in diagnosis of epilepsy. Analysis of interictal EEG signals is very challenging due to contamination by various undesired signals like background EEG, muscular activity, noise, etc. Thus denoising of interictal signals has been an active research field in recent years. Primary purpose of this thesis is to denoise interictal EEG signals by using different combinations of ICA-based and wavelet denoising approaches. Then a new direction is pursued by using Morphological Component Analysis (MCA) which is a method for solving source separation problems based on morphological diversity of sources. Afterward MCA is modified by considering more prior...
Wavelet Applications in Pattern Recognition
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahdavi Amiri, Nezameddin (Supervisor)
Abstract
We study wavelet transformation for use in pattern recognition. Feature extraction is a crucial processing step for pattern recognition. Feature extraction is based on finding mathematical methods for reducing dimensionality of pattern representation. Two most important features to be extracted are edges and textures. Edges and textures are not absolute concepts and change with scale. Moreover, local characteristics of edges are needed. In recent decades, wavelet transformation as a mathematical tool has captured the attention of many scientists in signal processing and mathematics. Wavelet basis can provide efficient and useful description of a function or signal since it has local...
Experimental Aeroacoustic Investigation of Transient Impinging Jet Using Shock Tube
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Supersonic impinging jets, similar to the jet flows exhausted from a nozzle, generate high unsteady pressure and acoustic loads on the rocket payload or the VTOL aircraft structure with possible mission failure during the launch/starting phase. In the past, experimental studies were concentrated on characterizing the steady impingement flow and not the initial transient process. It was shown that one of the main characteristics of supersonic impinging jets is the dominance of the feedback loop mechanism. The present investigation is an attempt to examine the flow characteristics of a high temperature supersonic impinging jet through a convergent-divergent nozzle during the transient starting...
Evaluation of EEG in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation of Tinnitus
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodian, Saeed (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Tinnitus is known as a disorder in which a person is heard a sound without an external source. The tinnitus with brain disorder source is still unknown and in recent years, various experiments have proposed many hypotheses and tried to evaluate the structural differences of the brain in tinnitus with normal people. The combination of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with ElectroEncephaloGram (EEG) provides a good evaluation system with good time resolution and fair spatial resolution. In this study, at first, based on a wide range of studies in the field of TMS on Tinnitus have been examined from the participants conditions and stimulation parameters aspects to suitable stimulation...
Optical Injection Phase-Locked Loop Application in Continuous-variable Quantum Key Distributions
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The primary objective of this thesis is to provide solutions addressing some security loopholes in continuous variables quantum key distribution protocols. The coherent detection method is utilized in this particular quantum key distribution scheme, which is a phase-sensitive detection. To measure in the quantum noise limit in the detection part, we need a local optical oscillator, which must possess a high intensity and a consistent phase correlation with the quantum signal. Therefore, reconstructing the emitter’s reference phase in the receiver’s detection system is considered as one of the most critical challenges in these protocols. In order to attain this goal, in the early versions of...
