    Abstract
In this work, biosorption of Zirconium from aqueous solution by A.niger as a biosorbent was investigated. For this goal, both of live and dried biomasses were used. The effect of factors pH, temperature, contact time, initial concentration of metal and biomass dosage were investigated on biosorption. To preparing dried biomass, the live biomass was dried at 60-80 º C for 24 hr and then this dried cell was crushed by mortar and pestle and the drying biomass was ground through a set of sieve with 100 mesh. Also, effect of the pretreatment of biomass by NaOH 0.5 M on biosorption was studied. Optimization of factors was performed by Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The experiments were...

Preparation and Investigation of Properties of Zirconia Coatings on Zirconium Substrate by MAO Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zareian, Shayan (Author) ; Faghihi Sani, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Kokabi, Amir Hossain (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Zirconium is one of the most applicable metals in the production of chemical materials’ industry due to its great corrosion resistance. Coating method of microarc oxidation is a novel method to manufacture oxide coatings on metal substrates. Lots of studies have been done on the creation of these coatings on light metals such as Aluminum, Magnesium and Titanium hitherto; however, there is a scarcity regarding manufacture of zirconium oxide on zirconium metal via MAO method. In the current study, aiming to create proper zirconia coatings on zirconium substrate, firstly, by the change of process parameters like current waveform, electrolyte concentration, current density, time and frequency,...

A Study on Application of ECTFE Powder Coating Technique in Nuclear Industry ‌‌‌‌

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology kholujini, Millad (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
At a unit in zirconium production plant under the supervision of Soure Co. nuclear grade zirconium is produced. In the process it is required that hafnium get separated from Zirconium. Zirconium and hafnium separation are performed by nitric acid (4N) and hydrochloric acid (4N). This isolation environment is considerably corrosive and damaging for the equipment. Powder coating is one of the solutions to deal with the corrosion. To do so, electrostatic powder coating method was used for ECTFE polymer. After the coating, according to spark test, roughness analysis, thickness, elasticity and adhesion; temperature and time of the spraying and the spraying of top coating was determined. In...

Production of Zirconium based Amorphous Alloy by Mechanical Alloying and Sintering Al-based Composite with Amorphous Particles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karami, Soleyman (Author) ; Pourazarang, Kazem (Supervisor) ; Abachi, Parvin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Production of copper-zirconium amorphous alloys by mechanical alloying and the process of changing crystal structure to amorphous, was examined. The amount of progress of amorphization has been checked by x-ray analysis after different hours of milling. By increasing the percentage of zirconium in this type of alloy, the process of amorphization has been improved. But There is a limiting factor which is due to the tendency of zirconium to produce oxide and nitride phase. Also, the effect of excessive elements on crystal structure changing has been checked. Hence, adding elements like nickel or aluminum has a different effect on the process of amorphization. adding aluminum to the system...

Production of Biodiesel Using Calcite Stone as Support Catalyst

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Morteza (Author) ; Khorasheh, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Larimi, Afsanehsadat (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of this study is developing and investigating heterogeneous catalysts based on natural calcite for the transesterification of canola oil and methanol in order to produce biodiesel as a renewable and alternative fuel for fossil fuels. At first calcite was calcined at high temperature to decompose calcium carbonate to calcium oxide. Afterward, Mg-Zr/CaO catalysts were prepared with mass ratio of 2:1 Mg:Zr and different weight percent(2.5, 5,7.5 and 10 wt%) on calcite supported by impregnation method. In order to characterized synthesized catalysts used different analysis such as energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy...

Study of Catalytic Activity of Zirconium-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks in the Epoxide Ring-Opening Reactions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Chegeni, Mohsen (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In current research, two zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks, MIP-202 (Zr) and UIO-66(CO2H)2 were employed as catalysts in the epoxy ring-opening reactions by amino and alcoholic nucleophiles. Firstly, these metal-organic frameworks were prepared under mild synthetic conditions and then characterized by means of spectral techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), electron microscopy Scanning (SEM) and X-ray energy diffraction (EDAX) spectroscopy were confirmed. Finally, their catalytic activity in epoxy ring-opening reactions was investigated and in to determine optimal conditions, the...
