- Abstract:
- Measurements of magnitude and direction of thrust generated by a propulsion engine is important for verification of design, fabrication, assembely and or repare procedure used for a engine. Due to possible simplification in design calculations, human and machine errors in manufacturing process, the resulted thrust generated may be different from those values expected. Also, It is important to determine the dependency of magnitude and direction of thrust forces relative to tolerances and manufacturing processes. It is necessary to have thrust measuring stand with high accuracy with capability to measure the forces in different directions. A new digital engine test stand has been designed, fabricated and calibrated. This test stand is equiped with special set of measuring systems such as two unique dual-axis independent force sensors, temperature measuring, amplifier and fully digital control and signal process systems. The test stand electronic measuring system is tested and calibrated with use of a reference multimeter. The constructed dynamometry system was calibrated with the standard dynamometer weight in different directions. The thrust and plane forces were measurable with accuracy of 0.1 kgf and up to 100 kgf, and the rolling and pitching moment with accuracy of 0.1 kg.m and up to 5 kg.m. The temperature measuring equipment is tested and calibrated for the standard points of water-ice mixture, water boiling temperature in Tehran and at an arbitrary temperature. It is possible to send and receive special commands via USB, control the engine and display or record the results by a PC. The control and on line monitering systems are safe and reliable by their design and as the test results indicated. This new method has the potentials of beeing extended to 6-DOF by some inovative modifications
