- One of the most important methods of controlling discharge in water industry which is widely used in irrigation, water distribution, waste-water engineering, drainage, flood control and other water related projects, is side weir. The hydraulic behavior of flow over side weir is spatially varied flow with decreasing discharge. Various investigators have related the weir discharge coefficient as a function of main channel upstream Froude number and the fraction of weir height to upstream depth . Performance of sharp crested side weirs with extended length (as labyrinth side weir with asymmetric geometry) has been studied in this thesis. The variables for this study are height of weir , length of the opening in channel wall , effective length , beak angel of side weir , upstream water depth , upstream Froude number . Relation of discharge coefficient for side weirs with one reformed beak is presented. The results of 200 tests show that in the state of using labyrinth side weir with asymmetric geometry with one reformed beak compared with simple labyrinth side weir with one beak, an increase of about 17.8 % in discharge is obtained. Overall, this kind of weir improves the discharge about 47.4 % relative to normal side weir
