  7. Abstract:
  8. Investigation of the dynamic characteristics of an existing structure system based on field tests is of practical significance, since it can be employed in the field of examining construction quality, validating or improving analytical finite element structural models, or conducting damage assessment. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic characteristics of dams using the seismic response data. Whereas, in the process of frequency domain identification of dam properties, frequency response function (FRF) plays the most important role, evaluating the corresponding parameters with better accuracy has always been desirable. Therefore, a comparison was made between some modified methods of calculating the FRF to reduce its variance. Furthermore, a software is introduced which is able to use all of these methods plus an Auto-Regressive model in order to calculate Power Spectral Density (PSD) of input and output data separately so that, modal parameters of the system are identified. In order to validating the results of this AR model, the software is employed to identify dynamic characteristics of Factor building in UCLA. Later, it is also exploited to identify the dynamic properties of Shahid Rajaee concrete arch dam (which is located in the north of Iran) and compared with the prior studies. This study also provides the identification of dynamic behaviours of four other dams. Another capability of this software is calculation of time-frequency distribution of signal using AR moving window. The last section of this article represents a comprehensive review of different methods of calculating the time-frequency distribution such as Discrete Fourier Transform moving window, Harmonic Wavelet Transform, one of Cohen Class Functions and AR moving window, and their applications are discussed
