- Abstract:
- Recently, there has been a great interest toward site–specific modeling of outdoor radio wave propagation. Wave propagation in very large environments compared to a wavelength builds up an important category of electromagnetic wave propagation problems which occurs in
versatile criteria from optical devices to long wireless microwave links. Well-known methods such as different ray tracing schemes used in these problems suffer from long execution time and great amount of needed memory. A new method has been proposed in this thesis to overcome such difficulties for high frequency wave propagation in large scale problems. The proposed method is based on tracing 3D vectorial Gaussian beam. In this thesis, after introducing an appropriate propagator named Gaussian beam, the analysis and software implementation of ray tracing for outdoor applications are taken into account. The Gaussian beam tracing method and its components are studied first. A fully 3–D Gaussian beam tracing code is then prepared using MATLAB. The code is validated by comparing its results with measured examplse or obtained by ray rtacing method. After validation of the program, we should find an approach to increase the accuracy of this method in modeling of urban environment. One of the most important factors in propagation in complex media is studying the diffraction effects of the buildings edges. Proper modeling of these edges in the computer program can increase the accuracy of the method. Finally a new method for modeling the field scattered from the edges is presented to increase the accuracy of Gaussian beam tracing method. In this method, the fiels scattered in media is expanded as a summation of Gaussian beams by spectral analysis of diffracted field. This analysis has been used in this thesis for the first time. For expansion of antenna radiation pattern into a set of GBs, we’ve used the Gabor expansion based method which has introduced in the literature. Finally, Numerical results show adequate accuracy and great numerical cost reduction in millimeter wave propagation prediction in urban areas - Keywords:
