Achievable Rates for Relay Networks with “Partial Decode and Forward” Strategy

- “Decode and Forward” is one of coding strategies used in relay channel and networks in which each relay in the network decodes the transmitted message by the sender and other relays in the network and then re-encode and transmit it to the other relays and the receiver in the network. This process results in the cooperation between the relays and the sender to remove the uncertainty of the receiver about the transmitted message. “irregular encoding-successive decoding”, “regular encoding-backward decoding” and “regular encoding-sliding window decoding” are different methods usually used in “Decode and Forward” strategy. “partial decode and forward” is a generalized form of “decode and forward” in which part of the sender message is decoded by the relay. In this thesis by taking advantage of “partial decode and forward”, “regular encoding-backward decoding”, “regular encoding-sliding window decoding” several strategies are presented named “regular encoding-simple partial decoding”, “regular encoding-comprehensive partial decoding”, “regular encoding-simultaneous partial decoding”, “regular encoding-simultaneous comprehensive partial decoding” for relay networks with serious and symmetric structures. The proposed methods illustrates our developed approaches which ultimately result in “regular encoding-simultaneous comprehensive partial decoding” strategy which is the best among all of the approaches in this thesis. In the case of serious relay networks, the method of “regular encoding-simple partial decoding” in special cases and all of the other proposed methods in general conclude “decode and forward” strategy. Application of the proposed approaches is in condition in which decoding of all parts of the messages are not necessary for all the relays. In the proposed relaying strategy for symmetric relay networks, no priority is considered for the relays in the network and each relay can decode part of the message transmitted by the other relays and the transmitter. Moreover, in this thesis, two relay networks named “semi deterministic relay network” and “orthogonal relay network” are introduced as generalization of “semi deterministic relay channel” and “orthogonal relay channel” in both serious and symmetric structures. “semi deterministic relay network” can also be considered as generalization of “Aref network” and “orthogonal relay network” can be intuitively considered as a dual form “Aref network”.
