- Abstract:
- One of the serious challenges in Ultra-Wideband (UWB) systems, especially Impulse radio (IR) systems, is the IEEE 802.11a in the middle of the UWB band (In band Interferer) which affects the system performance severely. Matched filter concept shapes the output noise based on its spectrum. For solving the mutual interference between UWB and narrow-band (NB) systems, the unique properties of modified Hermite pulses is utilized to develop a pulse for UWB communications. Matched filter is implemented by designing this pulse featuring notches that can be tuned to a certain frequency. Therefore, NB interferer can be nulled out passing through the matched filter. 0.18 µm CMOS technology has been used for implementing the pulse. Simulation results prove the ability of the approach to null out the 802.11a in band interferer. On the other hand no transmission is done in the NB system spectrum, so no interference is caused by UWB. The depth and the frequency of the notch can be tuned, the depth can be as deep as 100 dB, the tuning range for the depth of the notch is 70 dB and for the frequency is 200 MHz. The system can tolerate in band interferers as large as 30 dBm in close range, and 0 dBm in long range communications. So the whole UWB spectrum can be used simultaneously, leading to a high data rate communication, while consuming a low power. Finally the system is capable of tolerating in band interferers, and therefore an in band interference robust IR-UWB transceiver can be designed covering the whole spectrum. The pulse generator layout has been presented thoroughly.
