  7. Abstract:
  8. The objective of this project is to design and control a single-stage three-phase unity power factor telecom rectifier. Following a comprehensive literature review on single-stage three-phase AC-DC converters, high-frequency isolated three-switch buck rectifier is selected. In this thesis, the analysis, design, and control of isolated buck converter is based on previously developed methods for classic three-switch buck rectifier. Three-phase isolated buck+boost rectifier is introduced by integrating a boost converter to the isolated three-phase three-switch buck rectifier and modified control structure. The proposed structure is simple and has good performance for heavily unbalanced mains condition. Two methods are proposed for input current control. In the first method, sinusoidal input currents are always in-phase and proportional to the corresponding input voltages. In this method, for unbalanced mains, the input power is pulsating and output voltage contains low-frequency harmonics. Then, a novel control structure is proposed in order to eliminate low-frequency harmonics of the output voltage for unbalanced mains. Input currents quality and power factor are reduced in this case due to single-stage structure of the converter. Closed-loop system simulation results with MATLAB/SIMULINK are presented in each case to verify the theoretical analysis of a 6kW rectifier with 380 V_(rms,l-l) input voltage. Finally the results of design and implementation of a 600W prototype with 220 V_(rms,l-l) input voltage are presented.
