- Abstract:
- Contact happens when two bodies collide. Depending on our assumption, it can be considered as a frictional or frictionless contact. Here we have assumed that friction accompanies the contact phenomenon, hence it is called a frictional contact. For modeling contact problems, different procedures can be used such as node-to-node or node-to-surface patterns. Here we want to use the node-to-surface procedure to model the contact problem. The node-to-surface pattern has the capability to model interface behavior between different materials. By using the finite element method through numerical computations and also by applying constraint conditions which are related to contact conditions, we can find stress and strain distribution and behavior of contact interface and colliding bodies. In dynamic contact problems which are of our interest in this research, the problem also contains inertia forces effects which means mass and damper properties of the system should be considered in the solution process. The intention of this research is to provide an applicable algorithm to model the frictional contact happening in dynamic problems, using a node-to-surface pattern. Then some reputed contact examples are used to investigate the validity and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The resultant approach, if approved, can be useful to determine a wide range of engineering dynamical problems such as sheet forming, impact analyses, fragmentation of solids due to blast loading, behavior of structural joints in earthquakes, and vibration of machine elements.
