- Abstract:
- Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are currently attracting the attention of researchers around the world. They offer a wide range of applications improving road safety and driving comfort. Since VANET applications affect safety-of-life, data security in a vehicular system is mandatory. VANET is a special case of Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). Routing in VANET is a controversial issue. Furthermore, Security at routing level is so important because if the routing is compromised, other protocol layers on top of the network layer are also compromised. In this thesis, DSDV, DSR and AODV routing protocols are simulated to understand which of these protocols are suitable for VANET. Finding indicates utilization of DSR is more applicable for highly mobile networks. AODV suffers from high end to end delay in highly mobile networks. We applied security risk analysis on safety message routing to find different levels of risk in the network. Then, we propose characteristics of secure routing protocols in VANETs. Furthermore, we add malicious node in AODV source code called AODVWM and compare to AODV results in NS2. Finally, new approach suggested for preventing malicious node and compare results with AODV and AODVWM. Results show the efficiency of our approach to prevent the malicious node. The new approach improves the performance results of AODVWM and decreases the malformation property of malicious node.
