- Providing security for digital information in a communication channel is a challenge in the recent years. This is due to the strength of high-speed processing resources that can threaten the security and correctness of communicating information. Using steganography method, the secret information can be hidden in an innocent media that does not attract the attention of third parties. This research discusses about steganography in images. The main goal of this research is presenting a universal steganography scheme with high steganography capacity. Using this scheme the steganographer can embed every large secret data in images securely. The reasons for selecting the subject of “Improving Steganography Capacity” are low steganography capacity of existing steganography methods and the progress of steganalysis algorithms that make the stego images insecure. In this dissertation, Synergic Steganography Approach is presented which is a universal steganography scheme with high steganography capacity. In different parts of this approach, different methods are proposed. In Synergic Steganography Approach, first an approach for determining steganography capacity of images is presented. Then another method is proposed for improving its performance. In cover selection, a cover image can be selected based on criterion like steganography capacity with or without considering content and size of secret data. Afterward for increasing the capacity of the cover image, the image can be passed to a preprocessing stage. Finally, the secret data can be hidden in one or more images related to its size. Two efficient steganography methods and two batch steganography methods are proposed for hiding every secret data with any size securely. All the proposed methods were evaluated using some databases and the results were compared with other methods. The results show that the proposed methods decrease the detection accuracy of steganalysis methods about 15 percent and increase the steganography capacity about 1.6 times. Employing some of the proposed methods concurrently improves the security of stego images more. In this way, Synergic Steganography Approach can be used for hiding secret data with any size securely.
