- Limitations of fossil energy resources and environmental factors such as gas emission and global warming, forces human being to tend to apply renewable energies especially solar energy resource. Iran, which is located in yellow belt of the earth, has a high potential to be benefited from solar energy. Since more than 40 percent of energy resources are consumed in the building section, using solar energy I buildings can help the country to reduce the energy consumption. Space Cooling and heating and water heating are some examples of solar energy applications in buildings. Because, there are various types of climates in the world, there is not a unified code and guideline to design and construction of solar systems and each study belongs to its climate’s conditions. Thus, it is necessary for Iran to have such a study specified to its climate’s conditions. In this research, in order to applying an optimized solar domestic hot water system in a building, which is located in north part of Tehran, we use simulation by the aid of TRNSYS software. Active solar system is simulated and the important factors such as the area of collector, volume of storage, flow rate of pump, which impacts the thermal performance of systems are considered. Also, the results are analyzed in economic aspect. It should be noted that, this is the first time that TRNSYS have been used in simulating an active solar system in Iran. The results show that active solar systems could be considered effective solution even in cold climates when the price of energy is increased to energy global market prices
