  7. Abstract:
  8. Asphaltenedeposition is a major problem during natural depletion and EOR processes due to formation damage issues. It is necessary to reveal asphaltene deposition mechanisms and its effective parameters to prepare an acceptable prevention strategy. Therefore, different natural depletion and EOR experiments must performed on core samples. In this research, Effect of CO2 injection on asphaltene deposition phenomena has been surveyed. Two carbonate core samples and one sandstone core sample was used in experiments. The oil used in these experiments was recombinedoilfrom one of Iranian offshore oilfield. In order to estimate permeability reduction during experiment, injection of oil and CO2 was performed simultaneously and pressure drop along core was recorded continuously. Online viscosity of injected fluid was measured by a designed capillary viscometer. Permeabilities were calculated using Darcy equation by recorded pressure drops and measured viscosity. For each test, Permeability reduction mechanisms were identified from damaged permeability graphs. A new permeability reduction model is proposed which considers combination of surface deposition and pore plugging mechanisms. The results of new model are in good agreement with the obtained experimental data. During flooding, equal oil samples were gathered and their asphaltene contents were measured using IP-143 standard method as afunction of injected pore volume. Porosity reduction was estimated from mass balance equation and ploted versus injected pore volumes. Damaged permeability and porosity relation is calculated for each test. In addition, simulation of experimental data was performed by eclipse software.Applied model was validatedby experimental results. Sensitivity analysis was done on injection rate and matching parameter after model validation.
