  7. Abstract:
  8. The selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides is an important method in organic synthesis because sulfoxides are useful synthetic intermediates for the construction of various chemically and biologically significant molecules. To date, the most important method of preparation involves the oxidation of sulfides. Various oxidizing agents are used for this purpose. Oxovanadium(IV)(Salen) and oxovanadium(V)(Salen)Cl were synthesised and screened in the vanadium-catalysed oxidation of sulfides to solfuxides with urea hydrogen peroxide(UHP) as terminal oxidant. Both complexes showed good activity and selectivity trough the catalytic reaction.characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H and 13C NMR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. Oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides in one-step was conducted by this complex catalyst using urea hydrogenperoxide (UHP) were carried out in (1:1) mixture of methanol:dichloromethane under air mild condition. The effect of the reaction conditions on the oxidation of methylphenylsulfide was studied by varying the amount of the catalyst,,reaction time and the amount of UHP. The results showed that using this system in the oxidation of sulfides, sulfoxides were obtained as the main products(93%), together with variable amounts of sulfones (7%), depending on the nature of the substrate.Catalysts are successfully applied in the selective oxidation of various sulfides to sulfoxides with uhp 94–100% yield and 75–100% selectivity . development of methods for he understanding of high-valent metal-oxo species with respect to organic substrates is important . here we report a good yield conversion of olefins at Epoxidation reaction using vanadyl (Schiff base) complexes as catalyst and TBHP as oxidant in MeCN under mild conditions
