- Abstract:
- Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were produced after high temperature oxidation of gelatin-Fe3O4 nanocomposite, obtained from a common coprecipitation process of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions in an alkaline medium in the presence of a gelatin protein as an effective mediator. Size, shape, surface morphology and magnetic properties of the prepared γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles were characterized using XRD, FTIR, TEM, SEM and VSM data. The results revealed that primary, gelatin-Fe3O4 nanocomposite had been formed and next, the gelatin decomposition in furnace produced a spinel structure of γ-Fe2O3. The effects of furnace temperature and time of heating together with the amount of gelatin on the produced gelatin-Fe3O4 nanocomposite were examined to prove the fundamental effect of gelatin; both as a capping agent in the nanoscale synthesis and as the director of the spinel γ-Fe2O3 synthesis among possible Fe2O3 crystalline structures. Also, novel biodegradable γ-Fe2O3/SiO2/PCA/Ag-NPs magnetic nanocomposites were successfully synthesized. As a magnetic component, γ-Fe2O3 (maghemite) nanoparticles were used to be covered step by step. Firstly, γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles were functionalized with SiO2 to modify surface and to make stronger bond in the next high temperature procedure. After that, melting estrification of the monohydrate citric acid was chosen for poly condensation reaction. PCA is a biodegradable stabilizer which can carry drug because of vacancies in its inside structure. Due to the grafted poly(citric acid) branches, γ-Fe2O3/SiO2/PCA magnetic nanocomposite not only were soluble in water but also were able to trap water soluble metal ions like Ag+. Then, reduction of trapped Ag+ ions in the PCA shell by sunlight irradiation led to silver nanoparticles synthesis on the polymeric shell with no more reagent or dangerous solvent. Silver nanoparticles have their own effect in detection method and antiangiogenicity properties. Size and structure of the prepared magnetic nanocomposites were characterized using FTIR, AFM, TEM, XRD and UV-Vis spectra.
