  7. Abstract:
  8. Statistical studies indicate the fact that in Iran, like many other developing countries, a considerable percentage of houses are in the form of traditional buildings, and major losses due to recent earthquakes are because of masonry building collapse. In the early twentieth century in Iran every ten years a destructive earthquake has been occurred which has resulted in huge human casualties and economic losses. After the Bam 2003 earthquake, a team project was defined to investigate the behavior of rural houses with the aim of providing solutions to lessen seismic hazards, and the current study is the fifth phase of the following line of investigations. Among the existing kinds of rural houses, adobe building with a dome roof was chosen which had been treated earlier in experimental shaking table test at Sharif University of Technology. Then in this research its behaviour was discussed and simulated using ABAQUS CAE software based on micro modeling method. Modelings are carried out in two steps, in the first step, adobe walls were modeled then calibrated with the results of static pushover tests, in addition parametric study was conducted on wall behaviour. In the second step, the adobe building with dome roof has been analysed utilizing the previous pattern of wall model, at this step the building is modeled by large brick and small brick approaches. As reslut the most important parameters include elasticity of adobe by 0.107 GPa and its density by 1667 Kg/m3, plastic behaviour of bricks with maximum compression of 2.7 MPa, friction coefficient of 0.5, and for the mortar, shear strength is 30 KPa, and Tension is 7 KPa, normal and tangential stiffness coefficients are 0.110 GPa and 0.040 GPa, respectively. In these modelings, the relationship between mechanical properties of materials (bricks and mortar) like stiffness coefficient, elasticity, friction factors, strength capacity, and overall stiffness of walls have been studied so their influence on failure modes was shown. By applying obtained experimental values in models, the behavior, failure modes, overall stiffness and strength of the wall have been acceptably calibrated with the test results. In building simulation, for the desired dome roof house under excitation of Zarand record, a study on behaviour was done considering failure modes, crack patterns and ruptures created in the building. Finally software models were calibrated with experimental prototypes and then the results of response time histories of walls and ceiling were evaluated by recorded response time histories of actual sensors
