  7. Abstract:
  8. The ever-growing demand for energy has raised concerns on sustainability of energy supplies and their environmental impact. Energy efficiency in buildings has gained special interest due to its energy consumption share in national scale. One of the most promising approaches for reducing building’s energy consumption is using an intelligent building management system (BMS). These systems have proved to reduce energy consumption while increasing comfort, and hence have gained global, and more recently national, recognition. This research has been devoted to the development of an intelligent building management system for the building of Sharif Energy Research Institute (SERI). The proposed system has been based on features from previously successful BMSs and needed standards and regulations. It has been shown that the proposed control system could reduce building lightning energy consumption by 25%-30% and the air conditioning system energy consumption could be reduced by nearly 50%. Using neural networks and pattern recognition, this system has been able to find the optimal value of the buildings temperature, targeting the minimization of energy costs while recognizing their floating price. The results indicate that using this algorithm, energy related costs are reduced by nearly 10% during warm seasons
