- Abstract:
- There has been great progress in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) during the past decade. It is often difficult to manage vehicle traffic systems due to high variations and complexity. Intelligent Transportation Systems try to devise more efficient and more reliable solutions for vehicle traffic systems. Many ITS applications rely on short-term predictions of traffic state and it is crucial to provide reliable estimates of the traffic state in near future.Providing an accurate estimate of transportation time in a specific piece of street is a key task in Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS). This estimate can be either for the moment or a future prediction. A practical ITS must be designed for efficient implementation and maintenance. However, we couldn’t find any study in the literature to use a a comprehensive model for estimating and predicting the transportation time in a city.
In this thesis we choose transportation time as the parameter to evaluate the traffic.We also study a new architecture to estimate the travel time based on a traffic prediction for future. In this architecture we will present a model for the traffic network, a few algorithms for analyzing and compressing vehicle routes, mapping vehicle routes to the map; predicting travel time in a piece of street, estimating events in an online fashion, and finally predicting travel time for the future. The architecture in this thesis is designed specifically for a metropolitan city and predicts the street traffic as a travel time - Keywords:
