- Abstract:
- Electronic voting refers to voting methods that is done using electronic devices or via the Internet or Web. Helios and Civitas protocols are among the recent protocols introduced in this field. Importance and high sensitivity of electronic voting protocols has led researchers to pay high attention about their security analysis. In recent years, different approaches have been used to inspect and analyze electronic voting protocols. In many of such approaches, analysis had been done in a very abstract environment and without considering the operational requirements. The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the security features of electronic voting protocols, considering their operational and functional aspects. In this regard, a security framework has been designed and implemented to be used for evaluating and analyzing the security features of an electronic voting protocol in a Semi-operational environment. First of all, security features of electronic voting protocols and some samples of new protocols in this scope have been thoroughly surveyed. The Helios protocol has been evaluated through the proposed security framework and the violation of some security features of the protocol was demonstrated. Finally, a new method for using of Homomorphic encryption in electronic voting is presented that increases the performance and comparability of protocols based on Homomorphic encryption.
