  7. Abstract:
  8. For studying the hygrothermal deformation of generally laminated composite platesunder uniform temperature change and uniform moisture absorption change, by starting from the reduced form of elasticity displacement field for a long flat laminate, an analytical method is developed in order to accurately calculate the interlaminar stresses near the free edges of the laminate. The constant parameters appearing in the reduced displacement field, describe the global deformation of the laminate and appropriately obtained by employing an improved first-order shear deformation theory. For solving the coupled equilibrium equations of agenerally laminated composite plate, some of the stiffness coefficients are perturbed based on antisymmetric angle-ply laminate and cross-ply laminate. For these two lamination scheme, the equilibrium equations are simplified and can be solved easily. Thus, an infinite number of boundary value problems are obtained, each of them has the form of the equilibrium equations for antisymmetric angle-ply or cross-ply laminates. By addingsolutions of the BVPs of order 0 to 3, an approximate solution of the equilibrium equations is acquired for global deformation of the laminate. The accuracy of the results are verified, by comparison with the exact solution of the IFSDT theory and the results of Reddy’s layerwise theory.
