  7. Abstract:
  8. This research tries to simulate the conditions of nanosized TiO2 powder production from pure commercial precursors, to produce nanosized TiO2 powder by leaching kahnouj ilmenite concentrate. For this purpose, the ilmenite concentrate was first oxidized to study the kinetics and optimization of oxidation process before leaching. Then the effect of pre-oxidation on the iron and titanium leaching efficiency was studied. Then the reductive leaching of concentrate using zinc and iron powders as reducing agent for Fe (III) to Fe (II) reaction was studied. The effect of reducing agent as well as oxidation and reduction on the leaching efficiency was studied. At the next step the optimum conditions of leaching for each different leaching process were determined by using Design Expert 6.11 software. After preparing the solution by optimum condition and with maximum leaching efficiency titanium dioxide precipitated from the solution by hydrolysis mechanism. Kinetic investigations showed that diffusion was the rate controlling step in Fe and Ti leaching. The activation energy was 41.4 and 79.8 kJ/mol for titanium and iron dissolution (respectively). Finally the produced titanium dioxide powder was characterized by XRD, XRF, SEM and EDAX experiments. The experiments showed that the product consist of 93.5% TiO2 and 4.8% SiO2 (and some trace elements.) It is found that the titanium dioxide powders have the size of 20-40 nm whit 10-15.6 nm crystallite size. Also the presence of 1.2% Fe2O3 in this powder turned the color of this powder to yellow-white
