- Abstract:
- Environmental contamination is one most important concern that human has encountered currently the increasing demand of power production has been lead to environmental problem, therefore it is crucial to find appropriate methods managing these sources. Carbon dioxide forming from usage of fossil fuel as the main source of energy play a central role in environmental issues of climate change in atmosphere, so more attention in its emission reduction seems vital. CCS has been used as a recent attractive in order to reduce the greenhouse gases emission for large industrial units releasing carbon dioxide. The aim of this paper is environmental and economical assessment using ccs for power plants in Iran. Due to the facts that power plants consume natural gas and usage of combined cycle power plant contribution has been increased, a natural gas combined-cycle power plant for the comparison is considered as the reference power plant. In order to evaluate environmental effect of CCS project, life cycle assessment using Simapro software have been performed to assess the effect of using different CCS methods (Post combustion, Pre-combustion, Oxyfuel combustion). Post-combustion performance the best capture method by causing 32% reduction in potential global warming while first ranking has been exchange amongst the methods in other impact category. Economical assessment by using IECM model was performed .The cost of avoidance of carbon dioxide by means of post-combustion capture and storage as enhanced oil recovery to be approximately 77 dollars per ton, while the cost of other capture methods is higher. Imposing tax on emission of carbon dioxide and facilitation Clean Development Mechanism will balance the expenses and accelerate the performance of CCS projects
