  7. Abstract:
  8. Concrete structures may become weak and damage due to different reasons and need retrofitting or strengthening. Strengthening means increasing strength and resistance of members that injured to resist the design loads. The weakness of these structures may due to change in the design code provisions, administrative error, change in the usage of the building and damage caused by different events. In the last decade substantial research has been conducted on this field most of which were on the upgrading of RC beams under different loading. There are few studies in strengthening works of RC beams under static loads of torsion. Most researchers in this field have been used polymer fibers to improve the torsion performance. According to analysis and experiments that had been done by researchers it’s possible to find the appropriate performance of this kind material in order to improve the beam behavior. But for many reasons, such as brittle and explosive failure under ultimate load, difficult to implement, high cost and vulnerable FRP, proposing a method to solve these problems is important. In this study, the use of steel straps as an alternative method has been proposed and investigated. In this way, first initial finite element model was built and then experimental result is used for verification the model. Then 75 finite element analysis model that retrofitted by steel straps done. In these models the effect of changing width of straps, thickness of straps and straps distance, on the performance improvement of the concrete beam is investigated. Finally, checking the diagrams moment - torsion that resulted from performed analysis had been done. Increasing maximum torque to about 6 times the torsional resistance of baseline specimen was observed. Also very important characteristics in the seismic topics Such as ductility and energy absorption and failure of baseline specimen are improved
