- In recent decades, the air pollution issue and fuel resource constraints have compelled researchers to find ways to replace fossil fuels or reduce their consumption. Since the Vehicles are one of the most important sources of pollution and energy consumer, efforts to reduce vehicles fuel consumption can be an effective action to reduce air pollution. A proper powertrain system has an important task to reduce fuel consumption and air pollution.
Uses of continuously variable transmission system (CVT) and infinitely variable transmission (IVT), which makes the internal combustion engine to operate in optimal condition, can help to achieve this goal. In this thesis, the target is find optimal arrangement a new type of Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) system that consists of a CVT and a multi-speed gearbox, and optimization these ratios and other components of Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) system, to achieve the optimum fuel consumption. For a complete and multilateral study, at the first a comprehensive model of infinitely variable transmission system proposed that can be used for all cases. After modeling the IVT system, Performance of different types of arrangement will be evaluated, and after modeling vehicle in the NEDC driving cycle and determine the powertrain system operating condition, IVT system will be Optimized under these condition, and after chosen the best arrangement, ratio of the components in order to achieve optimum fuel consumption were optimized, it was shown this powertrain system has a good performance in different driving cycles - Keywords:
